Unit sizes

Will Napoleon Total War units be around 160 - 200 per unit or will there be an options for bigger computers to double these sizes ? As I have been playing the Darthmod for Empire and huge Unit does make for a better playing field

No, it has been confirmed view previews and screenies that NTW will have roughly the same unit sizes as ETW.

However, upping the unit size can be done via a single line of text. Just browse around the completed mods list.

I understand the smaller sizes to allow the game to be played on all types of computers. However, it seems they could offer larger unit sizes for those whose computers can handle it. I play darth mod as well and the larger unit sizes do improve the feel of the battles. The two problems I have encountered with darth is that units above 300 cannot deploy into 3 ranks they can only get down to 4 ranks at a minimum because there seems to be a maximum width for a unit no matter how many soldiers are in it. Also two rank squares with 350 man units are too big! Squares on the larger sizes need to have more ranks to reduce the size of the square.

That problem is very easily fixed with something as simple a DBEditor. However, even with those changes and just changing the preferrences.empire_script text file to campaign_unit_multiplier 2.5 for 400 man units as opposed to 160 man units, having to have slightly deeper units I find is a fair trade for having units that are 2.5 times larger

Very simple, very satisfying. And I am glad CA left it this way, it allows those with stronger computers to have larger battles, granted, they could have upped it to 400 via the unit scale option, but I'm glad they made it easy nonetheless.

Glad they left it as is, the default huge unit sizes are just right for me.

FOR ETW, it was very simple to change, one number on the script and you had units of 500 to 1000 men. I hope it's as simple to do with NTW.

I really hope they'll remove that ridiculous depth limit in NTW.
