Night attacks are possible but it is with a general with the abililty which they gain but how to gain, I'm not sure
Everything happens, no matter how much we can try to stop it.

Most starting family members have the trait, and aside from that you need to win a night battle that someone else starts to get the trait, so if the AI doesn't start a night battle you won't get the trait latter on.
