    Default Removing Crimson Tide

I remember some time ago a thread explained how to remove Crimson Tide from the compilation. I have tried removing the current files of the overlaytextures folder and descr_geography_new, but I'm still seeing basically the same textures. What I want is to remove the excessive blood, dirt and snow. In fact I'd rather have no dirt or snow at all, and discrete blood. I like my troops all tidy and tucked-in . I know it isn't realistic but what the heck. Help appreciated.

Wow, thats weird.. this question still hasnt been answered.. by anyone.. well.
I have been looking for a way to remove this Crimson of a mess mod myself and can't for the life of me find any way or how to do it, or even find some answer anywhere.. aarh its driving me nuts to play with these settings and seeing blood splatter 10 meter in the air after arrows hit or ketchup clad units fighting.. and the dirt which covers everyone as soon battles begins ruining the whole beutiful look of those units, hardly even get to see what they looked like anymore, its like downgrading the graphics card and the games graphical value, on purpose..

Really hope someone can answer this topic on how to remove Crimson mod.

    Thanks!

Default Crimson tide blood and dirt removal?

    Hello!
I would like to know if it is possible to remove Crimson Tide somehow from 6.3?
Why Crimson tide isnt left alone as a standalone sub mod is really beyond me. The sub mod is really easy to install and apparently it is supposed to fit in any other mod. Uninstalling or removing this sub mod however is quite the ordeal and i cant find info on how to do it anywhere. Im not sure if its just my imagination playing tricks on me but after being frustrated with this bloody mess and dirt all over now it seems to me i get these effects even when i play other mods aswell which previously didnt have this in them. Does it effect all mods once it is installed in any mod or? argh maybe im being paranoid.

Well anyway it would be so much nicer if it could be left out in the future cause then people who wanted it could still get it very easly and install it to their taste but the ones like me who dont like it have to go through all this trying to find answers and faqs and guides on how to remove it, if it can even be removed without causing crashes or something. I remember asking a similar question about the crimson tide in 6.2 and i was wondering how to remove it but was told that 6.2 didnt come with crimson tide sub mod included. So i thought i had just imagined it and somehow downloaded it and installed myself and finally just gave up on 6.2 and stuck with 6.1. But now 6.3 is out with so many nice new changes but it has crimson tide included in it. Why? Some sub mods should really just stay as sub mods. Specially the ones that appeal to certain tastes to such a degree.

Thanks again for a great mod, 6.3 is awesome.

Redireced / joined the topics. Please follow the suggestion about SS\data\overlaytextures folder and report back.

Also please don't doublepost if you can avoid it. As it is I feel that this should have been asked in the Crimonson Tide release topic in the first place.

Well the that would be true that i should have posted this in the Crimson Tide relase topic if i had gone there and downloaded the sub mod myself. It was included in the 6.3 and that is how i got it so i thought i would ask about it here. Otherwise i figured i might be asked how i downloaded and or installed it on that forum and then be told to ask here. Sorry about the double posting though, just trying to find some answers

It has been answered several times before. Delete the SSS\data\overlaytextures folder.

    Thanks for replying.
I tried remvoing that folder and it still remains. Although now it seem to have made the units get dirt all over them before even starting the battle. after a little while the units just suddenly become dirty and i havent even pressed Start battle, when i press start battle, it is the same, blood splatter from arrows and blood all over and sand and dirt and well it is no different.

Ok. Based on the changelog the version included should be
Magus Crismon Tide implemented (the no-dirt version) -> Crimson_Tide_4_No_Dirt.exe.

I am trying to remove Crimson Tide from Third age 2.1 and SS 6.3 simultaneously and got confused last night about which one i was talking about, was tired hehe. I tried removing the entire overlay textures folder from third age along with other files i was told to remove but it didnt help. The dirt and blood was still there and it even made it worse somehow. That was third age. Not sure which version that one has included but ill check it out.

The way you described which files need to be removed is really helpful and where they are is really useful information. I should have just checked which version of Crimson Tide is included in what mod and just downloaded and checked which files are included so i could know which to remove. But then there is the question of whether they should be replaced with some vanilla files or whether if it will cause crashes (I read some posts that it causes CTD for some people when they remove crimson tide files and other issues) or maybe graphical errors. Most helpful post i had so far. thanks alot!

Afaik those are added textures which means they are not replacing ones but additional non-vanilla replacing. So you should be fine.
The only "critical" files in this package have already been omitted by me (as I said ) so you won't risk deleting anything thats "bad".
And if you do... well, if you want to make sure you can always just move those files or use the recycling bin. Drag em into a backup folder,
after all with the list you know where they should go if ( and I doubt it comes to that) they are needed.

Default Remove Crimson Tide from RRRCC

I got tired of Crimson Tide, so I opted to restore the SS6.1 style.

    (1) Backup whatever you think is necessary.
    (2) Extract the attached nocrimson.zip to your \mods\Stainless_Steel_6\data\ folder.
    (3) Run nocrimson.bat .

You shouldn't see the effects of Crimson Tide anymore.

I warn that this is experimental. It worked on the test folders I created on my desktop but I did not actually use it to uninstall Crimson Mod on my computer (which I did manually). I created the batch file based upon what I had to do manually. Please let me know if it works right and does not wreck anything.

I have posted this in the RRRC forum because that it is the compilation I play with. Presumably it would also work for SS6.3, but TATW might require adjustments (unless you want SS6.1 material to enter TATW).

This is the list of instructions I created the batch file from:
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
-- From installation with Crimson Tide --
    delete: \Stainless_Steel_6\data\models_effects\textures\blood_drop.texture
    delete: \Stainless_Steel_6\data\models_effects\textures\cloud_sprite_blood.texture
    delete: \Stainless_Steel_6\data\overlaytextures\
    delete: \Stainless_Steel_6\data\descr_burning_men_effect.txt
    delete: \Stainless_Steel_6\data\descr_geography_new.db
    delete: \Stainless_Steel_6\data\Readme.txt

    -- From SS6.1 --
    overwrite: \Stainless_Steel_6\data\battlefield\cloud_sprite.tga.dds
    overwrite: \Stainless_Steel_6\data\descr_particle.txt
    overwrite: \Stainless_Steel_6\data\descr_flaming_projectiles.txt
    overwrite: \Stainless_Steel_6\data\descr_effect_impacts.txt
    add: \Stainless_Steel_6\data\overlaytextures\

I made a temporary folder on my desktop and targeted the Crimson Tide installation to that folder. This allow me to see what files the mod adds.

Then, into another temporary folder, I installed SS6.1. By examining it I figured out which files Crimson Tide overwrites and which ones it adds. Then, from my actual installation, I deleted those files unique to Crimson Tide and overwrote shared files with the SS6.1 versions. For overlaytextures, it was easier just to delete the entire folder and replace it with the SS6.1 version.

For the 'nocrimson' remover posted here, I pack the relevant SS6.1 files so that those without access to them can still remove Crimson Tide, and wrote a batch file to automate/simplify the process of deletion and overwriting.

I think people were having problems with manual uninstallation because they were not finding appropriate files to replace certain Crimson Tide files that overwrite SS originals. The maker of Crimson Tide should consider having his installer automatically back up the originals into some folder so that by running a batch file (similar to 'nocrimson') the original files (for whatever mod) can be restored if the user so chooses. Of course, now the problem is that compilations are including Crimson Tide by default such that it is not clear what files should even be used to replace Crimson Tide. In this case, we are lucky that there are earlier versions of SS that did not the feature Crimson Tide.
