    Default Bodyguards Spam

Is anybody else spamming generals? I find myself spamming lots of bodyguard generals when playing this mod, especially when I play as the dwarves or silvan elves. Their upkeep is comparable to many of the units in their respective rsoters, but they also refill themselves.

I find that the opportunity cost of using them in battles is just not very high. Putting them in settlements don't actually get me a lot of money at all, unlike when in other mods where governors can be a big part of your income. In TATW, the chivalric generals are rare, and only a fair few of them since only a handful of your settlements are key and in need of pop growth. The rest, just use them in battle.

Is anybody finding themselves just adopting lots of generals with good battles traits (healthy, marks of war, etc) and just mow down everything in their path with these generals?

    spamming? - spawning ?
And I for myself always only take as much generals to have one in each city, or one or two more to lead the conquering armies...

That's what I would do in other mods, but not in this one. The generals/FMs in settlements just aren't very useful or needed for that matter. So I find myself using them a lot more in battles, sometimes having up to 8 of them in one conquering army.

This was never the case in say....SS, where the generals/FMs were very useful to have in each settlement.

In TATW, the opportunity cost is just not very high.

I used to keep General in every settlement but as you, i also noticed it doesnt really give anything but even lowered population growth etc in some places. So now i usually have 5-6 of them in each army.
They tough as hell and most importantly refill themselves which is very handy during long war campaigns.

Once in my Silvan Elves campaign i even had almost full army filled with them and may i add i destroyed many armies before i lost too many of them and had to pull back.

For me, using more than 1, maximum 2 generals in one stack is lame. Ok, it is effective, but for me it kills the gameplay - it's going easy on yourself.

I'm playing as Rhún at the moment and I normally have 2 generals per stack.

In the early game I have to do this to win battles decisively since balcoth tribesmen and clansmen just cant hold the line against proper Dale and Dwarven armies without cavalry flanking support.I also use Variag riders but I find the generals bodyguard to be much more effective in taking down the stronger infantry.

I have used 4 bodyguards in one stack before but that was only because I had to destroy 2 full stacks of mid game Dwarven troops with only a few but experienced balcoth tribesmen and archers.

All of your generals will eventually become corrupt and damage your settlements wealthm so you may as well field them in battle. In fact I find the cavalry generals guard vital for early expansion. The thing I hate about dwarves is no cavalry at all (jesus give them goats or something I beg you) hence taking reb settlements is an unimaginable pain in comparison... OH HELLO JAVELIN INFANTRY JUST LET ME BEND OVER SO YOU CAN RAPE MY INFANTRY GOOD AND HARD

^Yeah never happens to me. I always have at least one general in a city and the spare are left to face Mordor and its wrath. Every army has one general so if I have five generals I'll have to get five armies (w/o generals) and send them to the general. With those tactics I invaded Morgul, got every area including Baradur, and finally got Black Gate.

I never spam/group generals that way. It just looks "ugly" to have like 5 generals (not to mention 8) in a single army. Sometimes it happens that I have two and very rarely three but that's only under specific circumstances.

Playing RR/RC I can't build a dwarven or elven army for every general I have. Armies are expensive. So I find myself using like 5-6 generals in my main invading army. In economic and logistic sense, they are very good since they don't cost any money and time in retraining.

I'm surprised other people aren't doing the same as I am. I guess it's just me then.

I have too many generals in my armies which is a fact I don't like, but most of them are corrupt, alcoholic or bad administrators and therefore I can't use them in my cities.
So I usually have them in my armies although I send them on suicide missions very often and hope that they get killed.

Kawee I too use many generals in battles and I don't think this is lame/ugly/unsporty etc. Everyone plays the way he likes and this is war so shouldn't we use any tactics we think is best to defeat our enemy?

    Seleukos_I --> I have that too

In a way I agree with you. One general will cost you each turn 450 gold based on his upkeep and wage. I don't think its possible they earn this amount back by staying in a settlement. In my Gondor campaign I did the same, namely stacking all the generals together and sending them to a kill & plunder mission to the north. Sacking cities and offering ransom for captured prisoners at least makes them to some use.

i never spam generals. they are too expensive for my taste, and they cant be disbanded.

i prefer to keep a small number of generals.

Funny, I find them to be very economic choice. The fact that they retrain themselves saves me a lot of money, and the fact that they don't need to be in settlements to be retrained is a big plus to logistics. I can march non-stop with them knowing that my army is being refilled all the time. This is especially useful as dwarves.

I do have to give it to you on the no "disband" option. That can be a pain if you're low on money. But you can always send them to do a Frodo by marching to Mordor.

Only downside to using mostly/all generals I've found is as Rohan, when I had 14 generals/family members in one stack, with a handful of other cav as extras. Cue multiple heroic victories against 10x as many troops until one battle where I ambushed some OotMM. All looking good (King Thengel ftw... again) until the cunning foe deployed sporadic but plentiful stakes a split-second before a glorious charge crashed home resulting in the (very) swift end to my family gathering... Cue rage quit.

I mostly agree with the OP. Although for me it's unsporty to field full stacks of general, it is even more unsporty not to take due advantage of everything the game has to offer. So instead of self restrainment, I suggest that frequency of adoption candidates appearing be dramatically reduced. At least for me they are the one's being spammed. Not born family members.

I think adopting could be disabled at least from player and maybe so that generals could be recruited. That would make them more important.
