Default Upgrading my computer for NTW

    Hello Everyone.

After weeks of thinking wether to buy or no to buy NTW. I have finally decided to do it. But I want to be able to play at Maxed out settings and therefore I have to upgrade my computer. Im not that good at hardware stuff so I thought maybe some kind soul here could give me suggestions on what parts to buy.

So the primary thing I thought of upgrading is adding 1 GB of RAM and a new Graphics card. Would this be possible or would I have to get a new processor and stuff too if I want a good graphicscard?

    Here's my specs:
    Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU E6750 @ 2.66GHz
    RAM: 3.00 GB
Graphics card: NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GTS
    TotalMemory: 920 GB

I know this ain't a bad computer but I've been having some problems lag and graphical problems because of my Graphics card and I really want to be able to smoothly run NTW on maxed out settings.

    Thanks in advance!

well, I suggest get your RAM over 4GB's minimum, possibly six or 8 gigabites, maybe get a bigger and better and latest graphics card, like GeForce 9800GT at 1024mb+, but the most important is to get your processor, if you had to only do one, get your processor up over 3GHZ Dual, that will give you high and over 3.2GHZ Dual (I suggest get even higher if you want ultra on say 4v4) for ultra. If you do all that, you'll have ultra settings!

Well I think that your processor is good enough, just overcklock it to 3.2 (which would be easy), and about the Graphics card I would recommend you ati 5850,but if it is too expensive for you, 5770 is a good choise too ; )

Thanks Beale and Joreto +rep for you! I'll check the cards you suggested. I believe I'll get graphicscard, processor and a couple of extra GB RAM. Will be pretty expensive but still worth it since I play games quite alot. The overclocking thing I won't try im sure it's pretty safe but since I don't know that much about it and it makes you loose your Intel warranty but thanks for the suggestion anyway.
And to moderators if possible don't close this thread just yet since I might need to ask more questions on specific cards and compatibility. Otherwise I'll just post a new thread with those questions.

    GeneralMaximus,
Is your Operating system 32, or 64 bit? I'm running 32 XP with 2gigs of decent ram and ETW runs maxed out, so if your running a 32 bit OS, your fine.

Hehe I said I know it's not a bad computer but it buggs me that Empire and other games lagg completely randomly at times they shouldn't. I don't know it might be some other problem but since I play lots of games and love flashy graphics I want to upgrade. Love the Gladiator reference/quote or whatever

To Frost Colonel: I run Vista 32 bit

To Jasheon: Thanks alot for the links! Sounds great reading the reviews on the site will definetely check all the parts more closely. Tha Processor runs at 2.66Ghz Marshal Beale recommended getting over 3Ghz im confused. I don't know anything about processors but the one I have says 2.66Ghz just like the one you linked? What's the difference between the two that makes yours better? Just curious.

Best gfx card for your money would be the Radeon HD 4890

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...-438-_-Product

Wait until it goes on sale, which should be any day. This will help your FPS by a good bit.

You should be able to max it with the gfx card and maybe get another 2gigs of ram or so.

If you want to upgrade motherboard, cpu, and ram. Then get these 3

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820227365

With a new mobo, proc, DDR3 Ram, and the Radeon HD 4890 will be able to max out NTW easily.

Here is a website that I like to use for benchmarks and such on computer parts.

You need to make sure that your power supply can handle the gfx card.

I wouldn't recommend you to take any of the 4-th series of ati(like 4890). The card is great but I think that its better to spend money on the new generation 5xxx (which by the way support dx11) for expample 5870, 5850, 5770. The first two of them are much better than the 4890(unfortunatly I dont know what is their price in your country but this are the best video cards in the moment)

Ok Joreto but do you think it's worth the additional cost? And also how much does it matter what memorycapacity your card has, I noticed that there are some with 1GB and some with 2GB and I don't know if it makes much of a difference. I guess more memory is better but how much does it really matter?

The 5870 one is about twice as expensive as Jasheons card.

Well for example I have an 4870(1gb) which is a great card too and till now I have never got any problems with running any game at the highest settings (including empire). And yes with 4890 you will have absolutely no problems with NTW, but what I mean is that for now the best joice is the 5xxx series of ati. But as I said in my previous posts I dont know how much money could you spend. The 5870 is a really great card (she may be twice as expensive but she is 5 times better than the 4890) , but the 5850 is absolutely amazing too. If I have to be honest there is not much defference in the perfrormance of 4890 and 5770 (the 4890 is even better is some tests). And about the memory I think that 1gb would be more than enough for now (you will need more video memory only if you use really high resolution monitor)

    Hey.

    Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU E6750 @ 2.66GHz

Ok processor. I have no idea what this cpu is capable of as I my self never owned it.
But i did check some reviews out.

    http://www.anandtech.com/cpuchipsets...spx?i=3012&p=9

    Its old

    RAM: 3.00 GB

throw this cheap value ram out ( i am guessing its ddr2). and buy some nice 2x2 gigs pair of sticks. They should be cheap now days. Corsair, OCZ etc. You did not provide any info on your motherboard and pc case so it is kinda hard to recommend something.

Graphics card: NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GTS

Throw it out and get your self a nice ATI Radeon 5870.
They cost 400$ on newegg.com. Again i have no idea if it will fit your case or not.

and one more thing, i can bet that you need a good psu to support your graphic card.

    check out Corsair 550 watts.

How much money are you looking to spend? That's what it all depends on, if you can only afford 200bucks then get the Radeon HD 4890. If you can afford double that get the Radepm HD 5870

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...-856-_-Product

This is what I would do if I were you, first off see how many watts is your Power Supply and let us know. Secondly, upgrade to Windows 7 64bit. Third get a new graphics card, yours is old and it's time for a new one. Either the 2 i listed up there, Fourth get another 1 gig of ram. Fifth, overclock your processor as close to 3ghz as possible. After those 5 things you should be able to run NTW easily at ultra settings besides having AA on. Do the first 4 things first, then try NTW or ETW at max settings you should be able to run it easily.....then you wont have to overclock your processor.

You do not need a new motherboard or processor if you upgrade just the video card and another 1 gig of ram. Upgrading to windows 7 will give you a nice FPS boost since it's not as bloated as Vista.

Absolutely agree with Jasheon you don't need a new processor. Better spend your money on video card and ram

Yah your processor is perfectly fine I would not upgrade that.

You need at least a 500watt Power Supply to handle the Radeon HD 5870......so basically you want something more then 500w, more like 600w.
