    Default WH40K Mod Idea.

Now I've finally managed to get this in the right section:
Ok now I doubt I'll be able to do this one by myself but I am full of ideas.
If you don't know the fluff to WH40K then please excuse the nonsensical jargon here
    I was thinking thus:
    Storyline
Set just after Terra (Earth) emerges form the Warpstorm thingy that scattered the primarchs. You control the Emperor and his troops, and Alpharius and Omegon's legion and must go out and find the Primarchs, bashing Orks, Eldar and other aliens that don't have armybooks along the way.
Every time a 'Primarch' world is reached (And sometimes taken, depending on the Primarch) you get the primarch and a Space Marine legion. On that world/area (By 'Areas' I mean Ultramar for example) you can recruit SPace Marines of that legion, and some 'legion-specific' units. An example would be World Eaters berzerkers or most of the Space Wolf army. So all the legions start off the same, and are then 'customised' by the Primarch depending on his world's culture. Once all the 'Primarch Worlds' are under Imperial control, the player then has to take a certain ammount of other planets (yet to be determined as the map hasn't been made yet) and then the Emperor gets returned to Terra and the most able general (Command-wise) becomes the Warmaster. Oh dear. He cops a loyalty decrease and IF he revolts so does his legion, homeworld and half the other Primarchs, dtermined by loyalty. (So all 20 (yep sorry Omegon) primarchs are ranked according to loyalty and the lowest 9 revolt, along with the Warmaster)
Then the real game starts. Up until now you were flattening everything in your path with your superhuman warriors but now things start to suck if you're a citizen of the Imperium. You have to save Terra and not lose the Emperor or you lose the game.
    Gameplay stuff
    Legions
When you first get a legion, they all look the same, except for colour scheme. They all begin with 9 units of Infantry (Think tactical marines), 3 heavy weapons (Devastators) 3 jump assault squads, 2 scouts, 2 units of tanks, and a primarch and his bodyguard. All of these can be recruited at the primarch's homeplanet, in addition to legion specials (Units that make a legion different from it's fellows, such as World Eaters berzerkers). I have not yet worked out how I'm going to do legions with dramatically different structure than the others, such as Templars and Space Wolves, but I presume they were the same as the others for the majority of the time of this mod. Just for good measure, I will put a special unit for the Space wolves, called 'Russ's nobles'. They will not be in the legion to start with but will be recruitable from Fenris.

This is just an idea and I will need lots of help if it is to be realized. This isn't an official request for help but if you would be interested (Not just in modding but in playing the mod too) please PM me or post here, or preferably both. If the response is big enough, I'll get a team and start work right away. If you have any ideas/comments feel free to keep them to yourself (Joking!) Actually post here.

    Regards, JF.

    Thing's that come to mind:

This is a BIG project your describing. Im not even going to list the list's of things to do. But If you and your team pull this off it will be very cool.

You should note: Gunpowder units, Formations, Troops taking cover? Lots of gunpowder units, Tanks (ie: seige weapons), Artiliary? Weapons, Equipment, Radar, Ordance weapons, Aircraft not possiable, Wargear, vehicles like dregnoughts, battlefields, settlements/castles, building's etc etc ....

not to sound negative but these sort of projects have been thought of before and sadly to say they never really got past this stage! you should try and stick to the theme of the game or something close which the engine supportsbut anyway

make each planet a small circular island and space a black sea? Warning; lots of sea battles. As for "taking cover", just give the units high defensive skill bonuses that use normally use cover, and the ability to hide anywhere so they won't get shot in normal circumstances. As for the heavy armour such as tanks; tricky, though you could modify the artillery pieces and give them higher movement and better stats, as well as make the artillerymen invisible. Only a suggestion, you'll certainly want a really decent modeller.

For any who are interested by my FF on occurrences in Rhun and beyond; I have begun a new project (not because the old one is finished, just opening more room for ideas) about one of the minor characters, Rankal. It is in the Third Age AAR index and here is the link http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showthread.php?t=376994

I don't have a team yet, but I know I'll need one. I'll probably start with changing the map so planets are cities surrounded with one square of earth on all sides, seas black and stuff. Then, I'll probably move on to the simpler units such as the Emperor and his bodyguard, the space Marine infantry and the Guardsmen of the Imperial army. Once all of that and the triggers are working then I'll try vehicles such as dreadnoughts and tanks, and mobile heavy artillery.
If you're a good modeller I really need your help.

sorry to seem unsupportive but Flavius you should really pursue something less dynamic at first, get some modding expirience and then maybe you might get a team together!
after you`ve shown atleast basic skills perhaps a small mod focusing on a particular time and place in medieval history that interests you! this project is realistically too much for one person! that is just my opinion do as you will!
    good luck!

That's why I'm going to go for units of infantry in a custom battle first. sure they'll all be ranged but to begin with Marines vs Daemons (Hopefully I'll be able to borrow from Call of Warhammer, their daemons are excellent) No vehicles and fancy stuff to start with, just models of marines with bolters.
Remember folks, I need a team to even attempt this

I fear I must agree. Dreadnoughts are probably the least of your problems. Your assault marines can't jump, and your guns will be impossible to implement (as para said). In short, it would be almost impossible for you to create this mod the way you want to. I love 40k, and I'd love to see it in a TW-esque game, but even Max Bialystok realizes that we can't do it at this point.

It's possible to make different ammo outputs for weapons I believe. Anyway, the main point of the mod is bolters and seeing the emperor himself crash into hundreds of Orks and smash them to kingdom come!
I'll try to start workl on my own and then we'll see

assault marines could be cavalry with invisible horses. No flying but fast movement and hovering.
