Make your Own Flintlock rifle!
A prime investigation I have done, on how flintlocks actually work. Sure I know the mechanism but how they work. So I decided to share this but in my words.
Ok its very simple really
The hammer is the 'cock' to the left. It has a red thing in the middle of it. This is the flint. Flint is usually found in quartz and is usually characterized as black, white, brown, green, or maybe red in color. In flintlocks the hammer has a jaw which works like a person opening his mouth and holding food in place. The same exact way, except here its a flint. After pulling the trigger the hammer will be released and hit the frissen which is the steel spikey thing in the middle. Flint with steel causes imense friction and will thus cause sparks to ingite the powder. Then because of the motion caused by the hammer the flint will push the frission back to the frissan spring which is the black thing to the lower right of the picture to stop it, and open the pan which is like a hole that contains gunpowder, to ignite the weapon. This hole has enough gunpowder to ignite the gunpowder already placed in the barrel to shoot. So how do we reload a flintlock musket then. Simple.
How do you shoot and reload?
1. Pull back the hammer or 'cook' half way to the half cock position, so that it will not fire by accident.
2. Pour some gunpowder into your gun barrel (PS: NOT THE PAN!)
3. Insert your bullet wrapped around with a bit of clothe into the barrlel to make it fit better.
4. Use your 'big stick' (you know what I mean) and push the bullet all the way through to the end of the barrel to have contact with the gunpowder from the pan. (PS: Its also so the bullet won't fall out of the barrel when you load your pan.
5. Open your pan, place a bit of gunpowder, and close the pan.
6. Cock your hammer fully, and shoot!!!!
How do you make a flint lock mechanism
Its simple since I specified it to you in the last paragraph, but the real problem is the inner flint lock mechanism....
This is at a half cocked position...
The tumbler when cocked will move down and it will be secured by the sear....
See??? The Tumbler gets caught with the sear to be held in place...
Now this is in full cock! Its pretty simple to do really. The main spring also to hold it in place too. Its all so easy, we just have to think... Though it took us 1 million years to come up with this... When it took me 5 minutes...
