    Icon3 Government Types/ AOR recruitment

    Hello!

First of all i'd like to say that i'm eager to get my hands on Roma Surrectum 2, and it seems like it's going to be awesome.

But there is one thing that i've always thought was missing from the RS series.
Do you know about that government type system that Europa barbarorum uses?
I though that such a system makes the more interesting when it comes to managing your conquered regions, whether you want to make it a vassal state and gain access to AOR troops of that region, or if you'd want to make it more like your homeland and be able to recruit your factions units.

And with that we come into AOR, I think that AOR gives the game some variety, for example, in my makedonian campaign in EB I vassalised some Thracian/getai settlements, and now i've got an army of thracian units at my disposal (The thracians are awesome!)

I know that it seems like i'm asking you to rip off EB, but i'm only asking for some kind of similar system like this. (Managing different governments and recruiting different faction's unit's)

I know the RS team don't want to have heavy scripting so this suggestion will probably be thrown in the bin. But i'm hoping for some kind of system like this with a future release of RS.

Thanks in advance! keep up the good work.

I think RS 1_6 already comes with AOR of some sort.

Hmm, well RS2 has AoR units (as you can see by the faction previews - quite frequently the celts show up, sometimes the thracians as well).

There isn't a government thing (like "control: faction units" vs "allied: AoR units"), last I saw. Though there are government types (Military and/or Economic).

As Alavaria said, in RS2, there'll be a load of AOR units in most areas.

RS2's government / barracks system is relatively simple.

Firstly, when you conquer a region, you'll generally have to build your own barracks buildings in order to be able to start recruiting there.

Once you get to the city level you need to make a choice between an economic (more economic bonuses) and a "fortified" city (where you get access to your best units). You can then upgrade to an "economic and fortified" city if for some reason your plans change but this is expensive.

Here are the building images and icons for those:

I see, that's a very nice feature that will undoubtedly give you some more management when it comes to governing regions.
    Thanks for the great response!

I'll be looking forward to RS 2

There'll be plenty of scope for micromanagement in RS2.

One of the features is the ability to build more than one temple tree. The temples are divided into 3 main streams - order, battle and growth....each of these is subdivided further...order_fulfilment, order_obedience, order_amusement and so on. At each level (shrine, temple, large temple, awesome temple, pantheon) you have to build a baseline "temple complex" building that allows you to build any of the others.

Here's my attempt to try and show the requirements and bonuses of the different temples:

and here are the deities for each faction and temple type:

The question really is how to represent this information best. Would something like this image below help as the "temple complex" building image to show what's available at each level for your particular culture or does this confuse things too much??

This example - shrine complex, barbarian factions:

Well, I think that the image is showing the information needed to understand the bonuses and penalties of the different temple "divisions".

But how are you planning to show it in-game?
With the House rules or in the descriptions of the temples?

The idea would be possibly for that image to be in the "temple complex" description - the temple complex being the buliding that needs to be built in order for the other temples to show up at each level. The individual temples will have their own images as normal.

Each experience point will give one extra attack and one extra defence skill as well.

And you thought slingers were bad before ...

If you can add enough attack to them, they start murdering even heavy infantry head-on in melees.

Actually most of the building decisions are reasonably clear and intuitive, without complex pathways. It's really just a question of which temple(s) to build for the bonuses you want - economic, military, etc.....as before, but you get to choose to build more of them.

By the time you have a temple that can add that much experience, there's no doubt that the AI will have one as well, so it should be close to even. Playing as Sparta in RS II, I find that Macedon out builds me construction wise, as they have more capital than I do.

Not really, the AI won't be clever enough to stack. In particular, though it won't think to make "full" use of ranged AP weaponry.

Moreover, +3 attack to an armor piercing attack needs either +6 more armor (lol) or +3 more shield (and you can't add shield. If you can actually get +6 experience (attack) from both temples, it would turn into quite a slaughter.

It's not surprising that all my FOE AARs end up using mostly slingers to murder everything.

I just hope it wont become unplayable like Europa Barborum, I didnt understand the game anymore with that mod, and the pace was far too slow.

So please give good explanations with all new buildings and how it works. I also hope the map size wont be increased further.

Map size is nearly the same, it probably goes about another 5% further east but you've probably seen the previews - it's still a large scale map.

We've been careful to avoid too much in the way of choices about economic and government systems - the one above is probably the only real decision you'll have to make. Pace is still fast due to the zero turn recruitment.

Ultimately different mods appeal to different people and some prefer the slower pace of fantastic mods like EB.

In the IMPORTANT STUFF folder it shows a few jpegs of the map extending all the way to the Indus valley. Did RS ever go that far?
