    Default which faction?

So i wanna start a new SS 6.1 campaign but I dont know who to be.

I've only ever played early campaign but will take suggestions from late.

I like to start of small and create my empire from scratch.

I like western europe because I know my way around it and it's where im from so its more fun for me.

I've already been Genoa and England.

I've already tried templars and I couldnt hack it.

So could you please post your suggestions and reasons why.

    GEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEENOOOOOAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
    ...Sorry about that.
France is a suggestion. But if you try and turtle, you'll usually get bogged down, and when you counter attack all the people who attacked you(Genoa), you'll gain lands really quickly, which is usually a bother, as you can't control them easily.
However France is the most average; "western European" faction. And if you get into late game with them, then you have one of the best rosters in the game:
    Gunpowder, if you like it.
Strong infantry, including very good pikes.
    Solid archers/crossbowmen.
Horse archers... I think they're actually lacking.
But they make up for it by having argueably the best cavalry in the game.

Another option; is to play as Denmark.(There is always the choice to make between Norway and Denmark, I choose Denmark because of the better late game roster, and better starting position.(More economical, which lets you conquer Scandinavia all the sooner.)
The rosters are a bit let down in archers and cavalry, but that only means that those classes of units are ok, on average. (Your cavalry and archers aren't the best, but they still serve the purpose quite well enough.)
    And their infantry is outstanding.
Finally; Scandinavia, is very similar to the British isles, in that they give you a good island fortress.

    Harney,
Norway, This was the first faction I played on SS, I had a whole load of fun. They have superb infantry, especially heavy, good missile units, but lack cavarly of high quality. I allied with Denmark, Poland and Hungary, right from the start and all but Poland were allies for the whole game, infact Hungary saved me a couple of times. I wiped out factions in this order:
Scotland, Ireland, England, France, Genoa, Venice and started on Sicily
    Novgorod and Lithuania.

    Always on Early

Scotland's either great or terrible depending on whether you like pikes. They've got a nice position and can get a decent economy going once you take over the British Isles.

Denmark and Norway are also fun unless you love archers and cavalry. Then you'll be a little frustrated by their infantry-centric rosters.

Otherwise, I've heard nice things about Poland and Hungary, and the Italians are always a blast.

Aragon has a nice roster too.

The Papal States is a great choice.

    +Inquisitors
    +Great Italian heavy cavalry
+Your enemies are excommunicated when you attack them
    +Excellent infantry
+Quite easy starting position in a way
+When making peace, you can offer the enemy getting back to the catholic church against peace agreement

    -No faction heirs

Thanks for the replies. Ill probably pick France because of the starting position and the roster. I like archers not really a fan on gunpowder but I'll use it if its avaliable. Maybe i'll try denmark after.

I did try Norway once but I went at it wrong and was in serious debt very early on.

    They are fun.
Although early early era, your units aren't special at all.
Play somewhat the same as you would as the Holy Roman Empire: which is choosing your battles carefully.
I advise that you ally with the aforementioned HRE, as it solidifies one front.
Flanders is a very wealthy province, good to take early.
As for Britan, you can either ally with them, or blitz Normandy, and quickly ship a diplomat over the channel to produce a ceacefire; if you don't you'll have them landing fairly strong stacks in Flanders quite often.
Either keep your southern garrisons... well, not empty, lest you tempt Aragon into something.
Furthermore, they are also a good target to blitz.
    And finally.
    Do
    not
    trust
    Genoa.

My advice for playing France is to keep a good army ready in Bruges, because you will often find the scots, the english, the norwegians, the danes and the HRE will try and take it from you, it's like they're attracted to it, and watch out for Ireland sneaking over to Rennes, the tricksy leperchauns. See what i did there? eh eh?

    Aragon, Leon and Castille, Portugal.
Especially Portugal if you like to create empire from scratch. You'll start with only one region

I like Venice, especially in late era.
They have good strarting position in the center of Europe, so they can expand into all directions.
Katholic (=crusades), good mix unit roster.
They have a fortress from the start and can recruit knights very early.
Perhaps their starting position is not easy. But the more difficult the better in my opinion.
(Check out my Venice AAR )

But France is a very good choise , it was my first campaign with M2TW.
