New Apple iPad device

Thoughts anybody? I despise Apple with every fiber of my being, but I've become worn down by the market penetration of the iPhone, and with my Fuji Laptop/Tablet starting to get long in the tooth, I was initially interested. The facts behind it are pretty terrible though. 1Ghz Processor, no GPU, no USB ports, no Flash, and no multi-tasking are a few of the big omissions.

No camera, no video, no multi-tasking, and no flash player... good job Crapple.

Being that it's a $500 device the lack of features (especially multi-tasking and flash support) make this device a big disappointment. 2nd gen will probably be much better.

The lack of multitasking and webcam makes me wonder why on earth anyone would consider this better than a typical netbook - aside from the fancy interface.

I hadn't heard of the Courier before, looks better than the ipad. Perhaps Microsoft will lead the tablet market the same way apple took the lead in the PMP market.

Its basically an ITouch Pro. Its bigger and thats about it. Like you said, no multitasking, no webcam. Its not a laptop replacement, its not a netbook replacement and its certainly not tablet pc replacement. So what is it? A more expensive Itouch with ebook capabilities? Colour me unimpressed. I want a true tablet PC damnit and I'm hoping Microsoft steps up.

It appears to be something in between a smartphone and a laptop...doesn't do as much as a netbook and costs more...at least using the iPhone OS apps are a lot cheaper then the OS X apps. It also is an e-book reader...so they are taking a stab at that market too.

I wouldn't spend the money on the iPad right now, but it should be a lot better by 2nd generation.

As for M$ for the win...not really. Apple sales are doing really well and they have been stealing consumers from Windows and the PC market. I don't use Windows anymore myself. Linux and OS X is all I touch.

That is because it is using a Apple's iPhone OS and not Mac OS X. I think that decision was based mainly on the iPhone app market. You can transfer apps you bought for your iPhone to the iPad w/o paying for them twice, which is handy.

I just can't see what I would use this for. I have an iPod touch which I use for everything and it's great, this iPad isn't robust enough to be a computer stand-in and I wouldn't take it to class to take notes or anything.

It is pretty cool though.

Ive never understood the whole apple thing. I really dont want to pay a premium for something, and then have to pay for everything on top of that. And while the interface is impressive, that is about it.

Couldn't they just... you know... make a hyrbrid of the two? Give the mac to it but give it a way to use teh apps? Or is that just too damn forward thinking or expensive on the company?

Open source is my preferred method as well. Of course the reason Apple has the apps program set up the way they do it to maintain control off the app market and to ensure they maintain control over the apps and their quality. At least that is their claim.

I like the app called "A stupid button" which is a red circle on a yellow background with Stupid written in white Cooper Black font. You can choose a female or male voice to say "That's Stupid."
