It was confirmed as a new feature.

The horses do that on their own, even if the ai would charge the squares the horses will stop. It has nothing to do with the AI.

On that note did anyone notice when they charged the square and attacked one rider flung off his horse and knocked down two british soldiers in the square?

No lusted said this is how squares work now rather than giving a melee bonus tho I'm sure they still will. Horses just won't charge the square.

WTF drop in battles? Srsly? That was my idea. Havent really been following NTW, does anyone know how its going to actually work?

You can choose to let people play against you in your campaign battles instead of the stupid AI. Also you can choose that only your friends will be able to join the battles.
