Something Isn't Right...

Well by the looks of things, Napoleon will just be a giant ETW mod. No new marches, same crappy sieges and the fact Samsonov wasn't able to comment on the AI's abillities. I'm beginning to doubt Napoleon. What's a few historic uniforms and better graphics if the gameplay will be still be the same? Anyone else feeling second opinions on NTW?

Is more or less ETW either way.

What else were you expecting? Less than one year after ETW does not translate into quality development. Even Blizzard, with their vast resources, cannot churn out a title in back to back years.

This is expansion material at best and should if been intergated into ETW.

I'm more or less with you. Darth seemed to hint that the BAI was improved, but other than that, the main appeal to me is the historical subject as opposed to the game. I'd find it much more appealing if it were an expansion and were moddable. I can't believe they didn't change the sieges, given how awful they are. As it stands, I'll be waiting for the bargain bin, assuming it gets good reviews from the early adopters here at TWC.

That is pretty much how I feel. Try as hard as I can, I just cannot get excited about this release even though I love the era. That has never happened regarding a TW release.

I do enjoy ETW, but I just don't feel like it is done. Anything that gets added in NTW, will remind me to ask that question: why wasn't that in empires again?

I've always bought a TW game when it first came out but I shall now hold fire and just read the forums and see if NTW is worth the money.

CA should be worried that the sheep have left the pasture.

It would seem that they have lost alot of day 1 sales.

Yes, I'm sure those 5000 active users on the TW center forums make up roughly 100% of all the people who buy the Total War games.

To the casual gamer, NTW is going to seem like ETW all over again. Not worthy of a buy when you have mass effect 2 and a plethora of other highly anticipated games coming out.

They are losing a portion of their fan base that used to be a sure sale. Sure it doesn't seem like much, but it will have a drain on their revenue. At least to the value of a couple employees and then they'll have less resources to put into the next game. Its just a downward spiral from that point on.

They would do best to secure the used to be sure fire sales in the form of the hard core community and build out from there.

I'm sure those 5000 active users on the TWC only represent the 5000 active users on TWC and not the other 15,000 unique visitors to the site every day or even the market segment that shares the same sentiments but doesn't post here.

Its like the pass of thermopylae, 5000 noble Greek cribbers versus hoards of Persian sales figures.

where is darth's review? where was it stated that sieges would be unchanged from ETW? (i believe it, i just want to read it so i can pat myself on the back and say i anticipated it).

It is yet to be confirmed that sieges are like ETW, all we have on the subject is one review from a guy who was playing the beta.


Furthermore, to the OP, there is already a lot of threads about the same subject, try using the search function before you start a new thread.

the guy of the preview said that in the campaign there was only one fort and that the others can't be built.

I feel like CA gave up about sieges.

The fact that the sieges aren't fixed is incredible. What about all that hype that the AI was able to breach and defend breaches that CA discussed in an interview? Were they digressing back to the AI of MTW2?

what about all the hype before ETW was released, things like

the battle AI was gonna be linked to the campaign AI which would effect how the AI fought battles, hmm

the battle AI was gonna use napolean style tactics, hmm

most battles would be fought in open countryside, not in sieges. hmm

ETW would be just as moddable as previous versions, hmm

and now with NTW almost upon us, we get loads more hype, where have i heard all this before i wonder
