    http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showthread.php?t=318070

I was just about to post asking if anyone would like to see a form of a War of 1812 DLC. I would love to buy it (Yes, I am American, and so are many TW gamers.)

One of the reasons I play ETW is that I can play as the Good ol' USA and become a super power like we are today

    Cheers,

    no

this is about napoleon. napoleon had nothing to do with it

plus i had never even heard about the war of 1812 until recently when someone brought it up such an insignificant war it was

but i suspect CA will simply because the US is their largest market

Yes, because of course CA should only venture into parts of history you have heard of. Maybe you should read more history and be a little less provincial.

Or maybe the huge american fanbase should realise that the US was amazingly insignificant during the napeloenic era.

Lol. I bet the most of the people dont know anything about War of 1812. Including american...
I am sure YOU also dont know about many battles which were important for some other countries, but insignificant for the rest of the world.
"When your opponent fears you, then's the moment when you give the fear its own rein, give it the time to work on him. Let it become terror. The terrified man fights himself. Eventually, he attacks in desperation. That is the most dangerous moment, but the terrified man can be trusted usually to make a fatal mistake."

"I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer. Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration. I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over me and through me. And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path. Where the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain."

There were actually quite a few international repercussions, and had they not ended 1812 in 1815, things may have wound up very different with Britain having to split her resources.

However, I voted "No," because I want CA to make this game moddable, like they promised.

I'd honestly like to see one staffer at CA- newbie programmer or project manager- with the balls to tell their boss that their business ethic sucks, and that they should have finished ETW the way they promised, not tried to make a second buck off it. If they want repitition, they need to charge $15 a month for MMORPG Total War.
Yes, I hate the fact RTW is out and I still have a Japanese title. Come on now admins- let's get with the program.

"War of 1812" can also mean Russian campaign of 1812 or War in Spain in 1812. I voted for War of 1812 DLC, but I meant european theatre of warfare.

As has been stated, these would be DLC for Napoleon: Total War. From my studying of the War of 1812, the only ties the two have is that the British were taking American sailors for the Royal navy, to thus fight Napoleon, and that there might have been griveances concering Louisana.

I really like the idea of a Pennisular War DLC. Or the Russian campaign, or a even a larger Eastern Europe campaign which is 1806 to 1812 so it can cover Austerlitz, etc. A few other ideas; a 1814 campaign where you are Napoleon and must beat off the Allies, the Hundred Days is already in NTW, some campaigns covering Central Europe in 1813 - 14.

If a Pennisular War DLC, or even a War of 1812 DLC was done properly, like RTI, I think it'd be highly entertaining. But they'd have to be heavily scripted.

Damn it. Its actually called War of 1812. Its the last war between GB and US. Actually second war od indenpendence. White house was burned. Star spangeled banner was written and Andrew Jackson made his name in the battle of New Oreleans which took place after the end of the war and made US nation proud of its self. Its pretty important in the history of the new world. It happaned cause GB was forcing US citizens in the Royal navy and the US wish took conquer Quebeck while GB was tight up in war with Napoleon.

the war of 1812... that was the one where the British kept having to beat back American invasions of Canada?
The one that was being fought while england was once again pre-occupied with europe and the napoleonic wars??

The 1812 Britain-US war was insignificant and the result of this campaign was null for the protagonists, the only advantage will be to attract more the US market but at the expense of more important events in this period like the Russian campaign where the destiny of Napoléon was played or the Peninsular war with the terrible spanish guerilla which take a lot of the brave soldiers of La Grande Armée.

Actually it was pretty significant in american history. Prior to the war, americans were pretty divided. You didn't call yourself an american. You would call yourself a virginian or a new yorker. During the war, the US patriotism grew dramatically and the US became much more unified. Although this unity eventually broke into two factions and one thing led to another and the bloodiest war in american history commenced.

It also was a sign. Canada would not be american (directly ) and the US was here to stay.

No, because this war is called, I quote, "WAR OF 1812". And no other name.

Knowing CA, they would make each one of these a seperate DLC

As others have said, I would much rather see a Russian campaign or a Peninsular War campaign. Beating the British back though Portugal to the sea while trying to take care of the guerillos? Fun!

The war of 1812 was about trade. Britain was blocking trade with France, who it was at war with and the Americans thought it was rather unfair. Of course there were the other issues: Royal Navy pressganging US citizens, the British supporting Indians and the American expansionism to the north, but let's face it, most wars are about money. Anyway, it was certainly not the second war of Independence and was almost entirely pointless as neither side really gained (except some fishing rights for the 'merkins) or lost anything (except lives of course). In the end, it was a sideshow war which ended when Britain's war with France ended due to the trade lanes not being blockaded anymore.

Of course CA might want to implement such an easy and pointless DLC (just think Warpath everyone) but I'd much rather see something with a little more action to it.

I would consider myself blessed if for once "Peninsular war" would not be all about Wellington and these guerrillas. Talk about sterotypes.

Although I really like the American theater in ETW - I don't think an 1812 DLC would really add anything to NTW. Just more western shako-wearing guys in different-colored uniforms with a different map. The one bit of differentiation and exoticism could maybe come from the Choctaws and black troops (present on both sides) at New Orleans. I think NTW will really need a more exotic scenario as an expansion DLC - India/the Balkans perhaps or at least a more broad North/Central American theater encompassing perhaps 1812, the Cherokee wars, the Haitian and Mexican revolutions.

i dont mean to make offense to anyone, but it wasnt a very large war at all. the only reaosn it seems big is cos its american and all the american education system seems to teach is american stuff. so to u americans it might seem very important when it wasnt very important at all

Not having heard of something is not evidence for something being insignificant. If that were the case, the Franco-Prussian war wouldn't have mattered at all since most Americans haven't heard of it.
