Ive wondered why you cant capture your opponents guns/artillary after a victorious battle in all TW games so far - it would be great if we had this feature in NTW...

I guess if you can`t get prisoners you can`t capture guns, but yes, capturing guns would indeed be great. Another one of those situations where you have to scratch your head and ask why this is not so.

It could cause a potential problem trying to add a unit on to a full stack, honestly if I had 20 units in a stack and captured two artillery that had to be separate I would just disband them. Also there is the factor that even if, in real life, you did capture artillery there could be the chance that you have no artillery crew to spare to use them and so they would either be spiked or sent back to the home region for later use (which would be very hard to simulate in the game).

Also it is kind of hard to know when you have captured artillery, this would involve devoting an entire unit of men to capture an artillery piece in game (since units cannot be separated and branch off, as far as we know [although highly unlikely]) and would be a huge hassle to implement.

Perhaps the next artillery unit you train would have a discounted training cost.

If there is a full stack, make another stack. That simple.

I said that, but would really march around another artillery unit near your full stack so that your artillery could maybe reinforce your army in time. Most people would end up disbanding them and making the trouble of how to actually "capture" them in game would probably not be worth the end result in my opinion.

You do know during this time period Napoleon reintroduced battalion guns whose crew were all infantrymen with maybe a possible training from an Arty nco or officer. So capturing and turning it on the enemy occurred during battles and during the battle of Wagram and I believe even Aspren-Essling the French took the guns from Vienna and used them at their batteries at Lobau Island and gave the smaller 4 pd guns to the battalions to be used by a small picked crew from each battalion.

I'd also like to be able to spike their guns charge some dragoons in and spike the guns!

in some cases the soldiers, capturing the enemies artillery, would use them against their ex owners.. ,
you can read that in some book about napoleonic warfare.

it all depended on the situation in the field on that moment, if the enemy would probebly advance quick again, and there was no time for carrying the guns to the own lines, they would nail them (if not already done by the old owners..)..

when the enemy was retreating and the cannons were not nailed, the pieces moved into the own artillery units, that was a normal thing.

for people who want a good authentic read about napoleonic warfare in all levels (artillery warfare, infantry etc) one really should read this book:
    http://www.bol.com/nl/p/engelse-boek...077/index.html

the content is written by soldiers who were actually part of the fighting parties in the napoleonic age, their experiences etc are bundeled together in this great book.

i think if you capture the enemy's guns then u could be given the choice to keep or disband them. if u keep them then the crew can come from one of your other units in the stack (they would be minus 18 men) now i know they wouldnt be trained artillery men but this is a game so we can use our imagination and say that they had a crash course in artillery over night or something

actually, firing a cannon is not that difficult, you can learn it very quick, but the trick is more how to aim correct and hit something etc
(distances, wind, amount of blackpowder etc). so yes, you could learn the basics very quick to a fresh crew, but they wouldnt be a match
    for a veteran gunner crew

Or, you could bring over an experienced NCO to this new crew, whose job is line up the cannon based on an officer's orders...just saying
