Aside from picking up certain traits that raise security, are there any other ways to increase the chance of surviving an assassination attempt?

Have a spy tag along with your General - Whether it be in a stack or in a city/castle. Oldest trick in the book.
Or an assassin. Spies work against other spies, but I don't know wheter they work against assassins as well. I think it's worth a test, unless someone can confirm it.

They work against assassins too, at Jerusalem, my spy spotted 3 assassins camping outside the city... Though you still need an assassin to get rid of them.![]()
It's not seeing them which is my problem, it's raising the assassination fail chance. As far as I know the spies just give you a chance to see them.
I'm sure that in Vanilla spies reduced chance of asassination. I remember one situation when I tried to kill some general and he had 3 spies with him. My assassin had full skill points and still assassination chance was 5 %. So in my opinion spies should work.

1. Stacking a spy with your generals does reduce the assassination %chance against your general. Only need 1 spy, and higher skill matters.
2. Best way to eliminate the threat is to assassinate the AI's assassin, you can usually get pretty good odds if you've trained your assassin up a bit (certainly much better odds than trying to assassinate a spy). Don't risk letting the AI take a poke at your general, minimum chance is 5% and the AI isn't shy about trying at low odds, and gets a money boost that helps them replace losses easier than you can.
Its pretty rare for an AI faction to use assassins, but when they do it can be pretty annoyingly successful.
I think Assassins increase the characters security, not Spys.
Sometimes when you move the Assassin into the stack he'll say things like, ''Protecting the general.'' or ''Guarding the troops against attack, milord.''.
Yeah, I thought so too, but its not the case. You can see for yourself when the AI has a spy in a city with one of its generals, check your assassin's predicted success chances against the general. Goes way down while the spy is there and goes back up if the AI's spy leaves.
Hmm fair enough man.
For your faction leader, commit a lot of assassinations and successful spy missions. You will get retinues: Master Assassin, Master Spy and the espinonage trait all of which will prevent assassination attempts.
As for others about all that you can do is have spies/assassins travel with the character that you are trying to preserve.
