    Default How do I make certain faction units into Mercenaries

    Hi what I would like to know is how can I make Ents and Beornings and other faction units into Mercenaires that would be avaliable to Eriador. Like after I conquer the Orcs of the Misty Mountains and I am moving past the mountains I would like to recruit Beornings and Ents any if I could make it some Silvan Elves too.

    So what files can I change to make this happen. Thanks!

    As far as I know what mercenaries you can hire is based on religion (culture in Third Age). Correct me if I'm wrong guys, but I think you'd have to change Eriador to the Elves' culture (I think they're Orthodox in the game files) or else change the Beornings and Ents so that they can be hired by factions with the Northmen culture.

    You need to modify the descr_mercenaries.txt located in
    ....\Medieval II Total War\mods\Third_Age\data\world\maps\campaign\imperial_campaign

    So if you want for instance want ents to be recuitable in Eriador provinces other than Fangorn, change the following line in this file:

     regions Fangorn_Province Bree_Province Cardolan_Province Bywater_Province Staddle_Province Weather-Hills_Province Enedwaith_Province Lake_Evendim_Province
     unit Ents Elephants   exp 0 cost 2300 replenish 0.03 - 0.04 max 1 initial 0 religions { northmen orthodox }
    If you want Beornings to be recuitable in Eriador do the same and add Eriador provinces + culture in their line. You can also edit the costs and number available, etc of each mercenary.
