Default roma surrectum and Age of Empires 1.

At the risk of ridicule, I am going to open up a can of worms here.

Recently I have been playing age of empires 1 again, and that game really does use some interesting appearances for units, and I have grown quite fond of a few of them.

Giving such units a remake for roma surrectum could maybe be a nice idea? for both nostalgia and to pay hommage to pretty much the first strategy game that covers a similar time period.

Heres a link where screenshots of all units can be found, small depictions though.

Maybe it could be something for generic units used across multible factions?

I personly love the look of improved bowmen with the wide pants, crossed leather straps, longbow and sword on their belt.

The composite bowmen, Cathapracts, short swordsmen and axemen could perhaps also be used.

I had a go at AOE for a while, but it's historical content was even worse than Vanilla RTW's, and the game play was (for me anyway), impossible. But then again, I'm an old guy.

But I'm not sure what you mean when you say these 'could perhaps also be used'? You mean for RSII? Because that's not likely.

I miss that game, first time playing it was a long time ago on my dad's crappy laptop, but it was still fun.

As I said, I am not sure how accurate it would be, but seeing a unit of archers thats modeled after the age of empires 1 improved bowmen could look rather good. Way better than the vanilla archers with those silly hats, which where mainly used by cavalry I believe and not archers.

AOE1 was one of those games that I played a lot. And I mean a lot! But it's impossible to play now. It was good in it's time, but things have advanced. And I don't think there are many historical accurate things in AOE1. Why would the team do all the work to create units as historical as can be, and then add some random archer type just because it looks cool and reminds some people to those sweet times when they had no worries because all they had to do was go to school and play AOE1 after they got home? Aaaah those sweet memories.
You shouldn't mix the 2 games up in my opinion.

It's admirable to like what a warrior looks like, we understand that. Many people have personal favorites. However, I don't think any unit in RSII hasn't had a good degree of consideration and care put into what it looks like, from the most elite to the lowly guy who operates an onager.

The only thing i did in Age of Empires was screw around with the map editor and make giant battles covering the entire map.

thats true, and I respect that. It was just a wild thought I have, and I really am impressed with the previews of RSII. Very impressed, it looks like the old paintings of the period are coming to life.
