While I'm sure its an oversimplification of the issue, the Muslim world seems to be royally screwed up sexually. Without the slave taking expected to be the reward of Islamic conquest in the Koran, there is little outlet for sexual desires.

This is exacerbated by the concept of multiple wives, as the sex ratio does not change, meaning some young men will have to do without women (this in early Islamic history would have been alleviated by women gained in conquest in the past). Its part of why the Koran is an excellent warriors code, the promise of sex is a HUGE motivator for a young male, but its no longer able to work with today's reality. The more fundamentalist the state, the more sexual repression I'd expect to see.

It would make a fascinating study to see how radicalism is tied to local acceptance of causal sex and prostitution, from what I gather prostitution is becoming more common in the Arab world, so perhaps terrorism will decline as a result It might also explain why so many terrorists come from Saudi Arabia being they are perhaps the strictest on pornography and prostitution though I hear their extensive internet filters are easy to crack with proxy sites.

Very few people are really psychotic though. Something as simple as being denied sex with normal youthful hormones I'm sure can be quite powerful.

Sexual/physical relations outside of marriage are strongly forbidden in Islam. Islam lays a strong emphasis on modesty and chastity.

I am quoting a few verses for you reference:


(Chapter) 17: (verse)32
Nor come nigh to adultery: for it is a shameful (deed) and an evil, opening the road (to other evils).

25:68-70
Those who invoke not, with Allah, any other god, nor slay such life as Allah has made sacred except for just cause, nor commit fornication; - and any that does this (not only) meets punishment.
(But) the Penalty on the Day of Judgment will be doubled to him, and he will dwell therein in ignominy,-
Unless he repents, believes, and works righteous deeds, for Allah will change the evil of such persons into good, and Allah is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful,

24:2

Now the right hand possess refers to captives/slaves, so basically its ok to boff a slave woman who is married, but otherwise you are out of luck.

Now there is the idea of muta marriage which is basically casual sex, but there is disagreement if Muhammad decided to ban the practice (it was allowed prior). Apparently this was on the same date as he decided that eating donkey meat was no longer allowed as well. Rather crappy day for sex lovers and donkey meat lovers in Islam. Gotta wonder which donkey meat loving playboy pissed him off after they slaughtered the Jews of Khaibar.

Well it apparently varies from what flavor of Islam that the person subscribes too, but its generally frowned on and basically forbidden.

I can't say exactly how this translates into practice though perhaps some of the Muslim members can fill us in on that.

Its not that simple.Religions tend to demonise sex.So a devout muslim/christian blames himself if he feels sexual desire and hates whoever does not feel guilty about this.I have a very devout christian friend who fell into depression because he wanted to marry a girl without having premarital sex.The girl didnt liked the idea and the relationship ended
