Default Can Generals Die From "Starvation" in Sieges?

This happened a short while back (couple weeks). Mordor sent three full stacks to besiege Cair Andros, where I had Denethor, Faramir, Boromir and another "generic" general (whose name I don't remember) as well as a fairly sizable army of my own. They decided to assault the castle after a couple turns of siege, but their last army was too far away to participate. Anyway, I managed to win, but lost about half of my troops in the process, including a large number of bodyguards from all of my generals. However, I did not get any messages regarding my generals dying, and I was careful to make sure that I pulled them back once their bodyguards were depleted.

Note also that I did get the message + zoom to location of death when Denethor's bodyguard killed the Orc general and also when my generic general ran down the commander of the second Mordor army.

Since I had another stack moving up from Minas Tirith I thought I'd wait out the last Mordor army and either bleed them in a siege or attack with superiority once my other stack arrived, so I ended my turn. At this point all of the generals + bodyguards were still in my army. The third Mordor army besieged Cair Andros as predicted. On my next turn my generals all got an ancillary or trait from their participation in the battle (according to that faction news window), but I also got messages that everyone except for Denethor had died "in battle".

Honestly, I can't say for certain about Faramir and Boromir, but I'm 95% sure the generic general survived, because I saw him chase down the remnants of the Orc army outside the castle when they were routing.

Has anyone else experienced anything like this?

Hmm, i've had things like this before, where I wasn't told that my general had died within the battle, but afterwards he had disappeared. However, they disappeared straight after the battle rather than after the end of the turn.

That's very similar to what happened to me. I did not get any message my general had died and he fought until the end of the battle and was alive at the end of of it.

Next turn i got the general died in battle message.

There's already a relevant thread about someone with the same thing I think...

Had something like this happen earlier today. General got isolated in a sea of OOtMM, and was cut down. Didn't get any messages, but got everything else fine (including the message that enemy general was dead). Additionally, I think he may have been married to some poor girl-after he died. Didn't look at it long enough to tell for sure however.
