I would just wait, unless you want to play online.

The only thing 1.6 changes are the AI's campaign goals and the battle environment, but because of the new amazing environment, you can't move siege engines around very easily....

Was 1.6 the version when everything became the opposite of flat? If that is the case i would get 1.6 just to see the new battle maps if i were you, there is no release date for RS2, so you may as well change to 1.6 since it could be anything between 1 day and 20 years before RS2 is released.

You can move them pretty easily! All you need to do is to select siege equipment + any other unit and move them together

I say it really depends on how much you want to play RTW with RS. If it's really bad, get 1.6, get a feel of it, then get RS II when it's out. If that's not the case and you're the patient type, wait out RS II and be mesmerized (spelling?)

Will RS2 fix the siege engine bug that causes Siege Towers to start in the corner of the map, unable to deploy them until the battle commences?

And will the open fields give more room for ballistas and onagers to move around in?

As Naked fanatic says you can get round this sometimes by highlighting all your siege weapons at the same time and then moving them, well it works for rams, i dont know about siege towers, so you should test it. its not perfect but at least you can get them closer to the walls
