Suggestion: Return to TW Roots

Thread: Suggestion: Return to TW Roots

Default Suggestion: Return to TW Roots

With the many advances that the Total War series has seen over these years; and there have been many, I think that a return to the original game that started it all should be looked at if it hasn't already.

Shogun, Total War was a GREAT game, not just for its time, but in a way it still its. No other strategy game has truly encompassed the feel for the time on a political and militaristic scale as S:TW. This game also brought a lot of firsts as far as the scale of combat on a screen and opened up a lot of doors as far as what kind of games could be made afterwards, as we have seen with the continued success of the series.

Also let us not mention one of my favorite features of the game, the Throne Room. I was saddened when I didn't see this setting re-created in the following Medieval: Total War games. Being in the throne room and having the general messages given to you by the diplomat for other clans was, though at times it became repetitive, it gave you that increased feel of actually being the leader of a clan during that time period.

While there are many great games in the future for the Total War series I'm sure, I hope that someone within the company can put forward an idea to make a Shogun II: Total War. With graphical enhancements on the maps and battlefields, also lest not forget a possible improved variance of speech with the throne room, Shogun II: Total War could be another great seller and overall great game to cover the Sengoku Jidai period of Japan.

You might want to make your suggestions at totalwar.com. twcenter.net is a fan site, and we don't have any influence over the series. Some of the developers come here, but it's unlikely they'd read any particular post.

Moved from Questions & Suggestions to NTW discussion, since I figured that was the most appropriate forum. If anyone has a better idea of where to move this, feel free.

Too bad the forums has a bad habit of banning anyone who dares to criticise ETW, even if it is legitimate.

Not many people appreciate Japanese history. I know I don't. I'd suggest WWI or the American Civil War...

    Suggestion:

In case nobody is capable of manipulating supra-human powers or knows enough about witchcraft to rceate TW game by magic or simply is a videogame developer who also owns the rights for the TW series, there should be a ban on stupid "if-I-could-change-the-world-to-create-my-super-favorite-game"-Threads.

Well it depends. Honestly its not the age of gunpowder that is hurting TW games. They are not evolving enough in each series. Would you honestly be happy with Rome 2 being nothing more than an improved graphics engine and ships? But this time no mods and a crap load of DLC's? Consider all the problems of ETW in R2TW, would it matter if it was ancient times? Now S2TW would at least have the perk of being the first 3d rendered ancient Asian history war game but again would 3d units be enough for you?

CA needs to ensure core evolution is achieved. Making sure that units behave the way they would historical would. I refuse to just have big mobs collide and hack and slash at each other. I would expect to see the tactics and politics of the time used.

Aslong as they don't go with WW1, 2 or modern or future warfare, I'm cool. 17th century would be cool though.

Could someone explain me why WW1 would be such a great idea for TW? The only thing i can see is thousands soldiers walking towards the enemies threnches being shot up and practicly being annihalated before passing no mans land .

Actually they won't get shot as the enemy will be doing the same and then they will walk into each other in the middle of no mans land and melee bug will ensue.
