    Default Shift towards chivalry?

Chivalry has always seemed better than dread - not only does it provide a morale boost for the entire army, but it's also much more useful in developing cities.

With the much higher difficulty in bringing about city growth and huge cities, it seems that even dread's bonus to law is now effectively obsolete, and chivalric generals are needed even more than before.

That's all well and good, and just requires a change in gameplay to get the most out of your generals now... however, it feels quite odd to play as the baddies and need to (for instance) release prisoners... and for instance, I don't think orcs would actually do better under a "soft" governor than a "cruel" one to begin with. I still play the part, mostly, and cultivate dreaded generals, just wondering what thoughts and ideas other people playing evil campaigns have.

Your post makes sense to me. I agree wholeheartedly. Really, an orc shouldn't even be able to gain chivalry. Show me a place in Tolkien's works where an orc acts chivalrously and I will recant.

Neither should Gondor be able to dominate Mordor trough sheer military might, but its part of the fun of the mod

Dynamic military strength and inherent orc mentalities are two very different things.

I agree, though my point comes from the good side of few.

My Theoden constantly is getting dread points and traits, as he run downs orcs. Thematically orcs aren't considered in the same light as men and are considered all evil. So running them down and slaughtering them, I don't think, should really give Theoden 'evil' traits. Or execute them if they are captured.

Because I also find it odd that Theodred would also release a few hundred orcs so he can be chivalrous and not dreaded.

I don't know how to go about editing these things, but I'm sure we could figure it out for a submod. Still love the mod though

A trait should be added for good factions that adds chivalry for running down orcs... Something like "No Mercy for Evil" lol i just like the sound of that... because running down fleeing orcs is keeping the people safe right? so therefore it would be the Chivalric thing to do!!!

Personally I like it when the Mordor scum run at the mere sight of my genocidal 10 dread Elvish generals

That all the Orc generals are chivalric on the other hand is a bit disturbing, makes me feel like I'm on the wrong side...

You can solve it by having a few war generals who do the fighting, getting them a lot of dread. The rest stay in cities getting chivalry/respect.

You could think of it as not letting prisoners go (as it is in Medieval total war) but rather not running down all the stragglers down and slaughtering them.

So from the point of view of Gondor (for example) letting Orcs run away, you could view it as the General not risking his men to exterminate a few stragglers, instilling discipline.
From an Orc’s view (this one is a little more tenuous) it could represent him instilling discipline in the rabble. Not letting his Orc’s engage in their natural urge for bloody slaughter.
So the ‘Chivalry’ bonus could be seen as a morale bonus caused by instilling discipline in the troops.
    I think I’m making sense. (I’m a bit tired)

I was going to say... It's not chivalry, it's respect. Orcs can be respected for their abilities more than feared. I.e Gothmog - he wasn't exactly feared - the defenders don't know about him - but the Witch King is feared. Among their own lines, the Orcs would respect the strength of Gothmog, and fearing him, but that's what respect sometimes is - serving through fear.

Orcs not pursuing in order to raise 'chivalry' - perhaps they get hungry after a battle... (or perhaps that is more suitable to 'executing' the captured, should raise dread though!)

i think actually gothmog had a part in the fall of arnor (some might know of him in gondor) im not sure though, thought i read it somewhere......

I never read something about a Gothmog in Angmar. There was the Lord of the Balrogs in the First Age with this name and the one mentioned in the LotR of whom we know nothing besides his name.

So out of curiosity, when you offer ransom and the enemy does not accept, do you get dread for executing them?
