Napoleon: Total War™ Debuting Campaign Multiplayer
LONDON & SAN FRANCISCO (January 20th, 2010) – SEGA® Europe Ltd. and SEGA® of America, Inc. today announced that, for the first time in Total War™ history, the Campaign Mode in Napoleon: Total War™ will feature both single player and multiplayer modes.

This much-requested mode will allow players to experience the full depth of Napoleon: Total War in a multiplayer environment – either working to stop Napoleon’s advance, or competing against each other to better his achievements. Each of the three theatres of war from Napoleon’s career - Italy, Egypt and Europe - are available out of the box in 2 player turn-based online games.

Another exciting multiplayer option has been added to Napoleon: Total War – Drop-in Battles. When starting a Single Player Campaign in Napoleon: Total War, players are presented with an option to allow Drop-in Battles. Drop-in battles bring a fresh challenge to the single player campaign mode by allowing the players opponents to be controlled in real-time by an online adversary.

Campaign Multiplayer has been made possible for Napoleon: Total War by the immense success that the Campaign Multiplayer Beta for Empire: Total War™ proved to be. The Beta started on December 7th 2009 with over 15.000 Total War fans helping out in the testing of this new Multiplayer Mode. Feedback from consumers has been very positive, and with the BETA still ongoing, consumers can contribute to the testing of this new addition to the Total War series.

“Following all the great feedback we've had from our fans for the Empire Multiplayer Campaign Beta, we're proud to announce that all three campaigns in Napoleon: Total War will be multiplayer enabled.” said Mike Simpson, Creative Director at The Creative Assembly and creator of the Total War franchise. “We'd like to thank our fans for all their support.”

Napoleon: Total War builds on the successful Total War series by taking all the features from previous games, such as the full 3D land and naval battles, the detailed campaign map, and an in depth diplomacy system by taking them a step further. "

    Um, dont know about that.
The said "thank you" for our feedback, but if they added some features like spectator mode for battles aren't mentioned.. I think it will be exactly like the MP beta for Empire..

Sounds like a great way to avoid developing a better BAI. I wonder how this option will deal with online quitters who don't finish battles?

    Thanks for sharing.
The extra development time will allow us to finalize and polish Empire, making it the most accomplished and epic of the Total War series." said Kieran Brigden, Studio Communications Manager at The Creative Assembly. "There is a great deal of anticipation around Empire: Total War and we want to ensure that it is the benchmark for strategy games upon its release.

Again, I'd like to see the proof you have obviously been hiding from the rest of the community, that the BAI is going to be bad.

Good solution against online quitters. This could be interesting for the MP Campaign. If your buddy quits while playing the Comps' forces in MP Campaign, AI will probably also take over.. That would be a (far from ideal) solution to force the Comp to fight its own battles.. Still, in the meantime your buddy has nothing to do when he can't spectate..

The reality is that, most of the time, a friend human player will be better than AI so that in itself does not suggest the BAI will be bad. An battles will be more enjoyable.

Hardly, there are people that will be unhappy regardless of what CA does anyways.

The fact is you cannot make a super AI. Even if there was, people like Abspara would be complaining about the fact they cannot defeat the AI and therefore cannot get anywhere in the game.

I think that's a little unjustified, Abspara might be overly negative by your standards, but we've never been given any inclination that, when faced with such a predicament, he would complain about an AI that was too good. Of course, he won't likely face that problem given CA's track record.

Oh please we got people talking about how it's better for CA just to use humans as the other end of the table for battles. That was quite a while ago starting with MTW2 I believe.

Now CA's bought it in and look at it. People are freaking out all over it and calling it a massive failure.

You know how stupid this sounds? Try playing mp. its alot darn harder than the ai if its somebody decent that's for sure.

actually it is spot on... ppl will complain about the BAI regardless of how exceptionally well they create one (either it is too hard, too easy, too dumb, etc.). infact, as soon as a company creates a BAI that is on par with a human, i would start stockpile'n can goods and prepare for the end of the world!

anyways... what makes a human opponet much better is that he/she runs on more than logic (and sometimes not at all) and also uses emotion and illogical strats to comprise something original and beyond the releam of 1001010100101010010101110101011010010101010

It won't work like this, this is online not hotseat. You need to be on 2 different comps. I'm disappointed to see its still only 2 players. I'd thought they they were going to expand the number for the real deal.

The AI better be able to fight in this, the choice between auto-resolve or fight my buddy from ETW's Beta is weak. Some of us still want to comp-stomp; of course in my experience CA isn't competent enough to give the player more choices.

The Drop-In single player campaign battles is a pretty cool idea. Hopefully it will be unneeded though (IE, the BAI provides enough of a challenge).
