    Default RS Screenshot competition

Due to Brusilov being tied up with work issues, our main screenshot taker is suddenly pretty much out of action and we're still needing to take a load of shots for the Roman previews.

Therefore we thought we would run a competition to try and find someone who could help with this important job.

    Rules are as follows:

    1) Competition is open to anyone
    2) Entrants must base their shots on RS1.6
    3) Only unedited (other than cropping) screenshots are allowed
    4) Closing date: 24/1/10 (we're in a bit of a hurry)
    5) Minimum resolution 1440pixels wide

Entries will be judged by the RS team. We are looking for screenshots that are taken on a high quality system and capture units in a dynamic and attractive way (see past previews to see what we're after).

The winner(s) will be rewarded by getting access to the RS2 beta, having their work featured in the RS2 Roman previews and RS2 loading screens.

Oh, I forgot to say that you need to be able to get screenshots at a minimum of 1440pixels wide.

Question, then where do we upload them then? When I upload to twcenter my screenshots are chopped, when I upload to photobucket/flickr/even a few sites claiming to support HD pictures same thing. For this reason I'm considering switching my current RS AAR over to youtube (where it is still cut down even in their "HD" versions of videos, but using software I can at least show the images in their actual size through panning).

for example the shots below were all originally 1920x___ but I can't upload it anywhere I am aware of and have it keep this resolution:

I don't know, I couldn't get it to work so I used fraps. A note using fraps though the default capture button is F10 (though you can change it) and that is used by the game as a marker for the camera or something during battles, so you will want to either change it to a button not mapped in game, or change the controls in game through the main menu (really wish you could do this during a campaign/battle but apparently in Rome you can only do it at the options menu when you load up the game).

You could upload a lower resolution version here and add the high resolution ones in a rar or zip pack.

I click print screen, and click paste in paint. It copies a black screen.
This is a known RTW issue. Turn of AA and it should work. However if you use fraps you are able to have AA on.

Try imageshack - screenshots not cropped there.

I tried uploading an album there and same problem, even when I zoom in that isn't full sized.

but I do like their slideshow feature.

** My mistake, I registered and tried again and they are full size now from that link.

*** no only some of them are, no idea why but some were resized and some are not.

All of the pictures in that slideshow should be over 1400 pixels wide like this one below, it is 1709x1080 pixels, but when I uploaded it gets chopped down to 800px × 506px

The most i can get out of fraps is 1024x768, how do i change this

Fraps *should* just go off of your screen resolution. So if your in game resolution is 1024x768 then that is the size the capture will be. You can change in game resolution from the options in the main menu > Video Settings > battle resolution

Just a little note that we're looking particularly for people that are able to use the movie_cam playback (although if you can't it's relatively easy to pick up)

Disregard my previous entry, then. I'll go back and do it right.

As well as the more scenic / dramatic overviews, it's important for the unit previews to be able to get nice low down close-ups.

I figured out my problem with imageshack, free members can only upload images under 5 mb, well a 1920x1080 .bmp screenshot from fraps is over that. So I subscribed, and it costs 8 bucks and then supposedly you can upload images up to 10mb in size. Only I still have the same problem, so I emailed them about it.

It is really too bad that the movie cam only works on custom battles, I really am not really a custom battle guy. I like context in my battles and I guess I'm just not very creative.

I tried it, and it does get some good shots I can imagine if you put time into setting up a good battle it would turn out very nice. I played a very quick battle as Germanic tribes and tried to ambush the Romans in a forest and I wasn't really happy with the way it turned out I loaded like 4 stacks in there but I didn't think the AI cooperated very well . I'm going to have to play it with it more, maybe even recreate some battles in the future for my AAR.

Edit: Thanks tone, switched them to jpeg.

Or convert your images to .jpg first. I used DDS converter for this as it has a bulk upload facility, but ended up buying FRAPS (not expensive) and then you can save as .jpg files and upload directly. Also worth using the imageshack toolbar to make things easier.
