Default Who is your historical role model in RTR?

When I play Rome, I try to do whatever I possibly can to get a significant strategic advantage - use terrain, cheap troops, sieges (both attacking and defending) more than trying to defeat my opponents in battle directly.

Once I've acquired that strategic advantage, I exploit it ruthlessly, both for my troops and my enemies'. Advantage in numbers? Turn battles into slugfests.

I also try to choke my enemy strategically - fleets, besieging ports, hiring mercs so they can't, etc.

I think I'm a Ulysses S. Grant. Not the most fantastic tactical commander, but an effective one, and one of the best strategic generals of all time.

    How about you?

I use bridges for defence. the AI attacks me and crushes . the battle ends with 1,500 deaths for the AI and about 100 for me! (on VH/VH of course)

also even though its stupid , I sink AI's fleets that use to have a full army stack and only 1 ship . Why only 1 ship ? omfg.!!!

    Hi,

i think my style is a cross between Alexander the Great and Seleucus but is definately Hellenic.
I use elephants and light cav and infantry to cover my left flank and incircle if the oppotunity presents. I use my skirmishers to harass then try to pin the enemy on my phalanx whilst my companions charge into the enemies flank and rear.

For me this tactic works well against all infantry based armies but against the Scythians and Parthians i use many more elephant and cav units

Well I am definitely influenced by the likes of Cao Cao

I like to win my wars on the campaign map rather than the battle one. So I'll make sure I have good supply lines, an extensive spy network, watchtowers, assassins to take out key figures. I'll also build forts in key locations. Sometimes I might do a Caesar and build a network of forts around a tough city that I'm trying to take and there is a large army about that could reinforce them (you can't spam this strategy like in RTR or something because of the extreme cost of units and stuff, but it's doable).

Whilst on the battle map my primary concern when it comes to attacking an enemy is the elimination of it's general. After that it comes down to overwhelming one or both enemy flanks.

I am currently playing as the Romans, and i can tell you that the it isn't very great. The Romans lack fire powers, their Principe might be a decent back bone of the army, however, the hastasi and triari are craps. Their calvaries are practically DNE ( does not exist), which is one of the most important factor in warfare, speed.

Due to these disadvantages... The only thing I can do is to use a series of spy network and diplomats to delay & fish information out of my enemy. I also adopt a hit & run, guerilla tactic such as:
When the enemy is twice my size, run away.
When the enemy is same as my size, defend. (wear them out)
When the enemy is less than my size, surround. (which doesn't really work b/c lack of calvary)

You guys can probably guess. My role model is Sun Tzu.
