I noticed all the new cinema films are also in 3-D watchable. I remember, not sure, about 20years ago, there was a 3-D hype with this stupid red/green paperglases with nearly no effect.

And now? Is it worth the extra money?

Clearly you haven't seen a recent 3D film. It uses new digital technology and circular polarization glasses (no more red and blue). Is it all hype, sure some of it is. But technology is blazing forward in this field with work being done on 3D WITHOUT the glasses. I think 3D is here to stay.

I can't wait until the movies are immersive.

Indeed. 3D today isn't so much about things flying out at you (although thats still an attraction in some films) but about creating depth to the image making the audience feel like they are looking at a stage rather than a flat 2D image. It ups the immersion level 1000 fold as you feel like you are actually there. Once the glasses are abandoned things will really change I think. I have to wonder what that change will do to theatre. Why produce a stage act when you can get EVERYTHING except audience interaction (which is minimal in most Broadway acts) with a 3D screen. It will be interesting.

How about nothing? The theater is all about having a real stage with real actors performing live for an audience. If I wanted to see a 3D movie in the first place then, you guessed it, I'd go watch a movie, not a play.

Wow, one sentence, so many questions. Why would you, as the audience, ever wield a lightsaber in a SW movie? Why is wielding a lightsaber the highest form of immersion? And lastly, what's that got to do with you selling your soul?

I will give it a try with Avatar. Got to hurry up, take my girl with me and post my impressions later... Thanks for the answers!

I was thinking more along the lines of stage performances captured in 3D. Why hire regional actors, stage crews etc in each city you decide to release the show when you can capture the most famous actors performing and then display it in 3D (where it will be pretty much the same experience once the glasses are gone) in all the cities you want.

I can't wait for 3D to die again. I prefer to avoid migraines and vertigo when I am watching my movies.

No vertigo and no migraines for me. Two or three time, when the screen has a lot of white and moving fast, i become moist eyes- about 10 seconds in 180 minutes. I dont mind that- because for the rest it is really awesome!

For example, when small particals like ash fall down and one get the intension to try to touch them. Or when the weapons are directed in your direction... a fantastic illusion. Have to say that i watched Avatar before this experience and its simply not to compare.

Im glad that i´ve asked and im happy DisgruntledGoat adviced me.

greetings from a new 3D fan

I watched Up in 3D. I absolutely love that movie, but the 3D thing was....meh...

Thought it was annoying with the glasses too, since I already have a pair and I can barely see without them, so that's two pairs on eachother. It worked, but still...

Well they are working on 3D without need for glasses. That way they can torture everyone with lame gimmicks.

Coraline was great in 3D. o.o; Sadly need really good 3D glasses though, and watch it in theators not on a HD TV, I tried it on my HD TV when I got around to getting it on blu-ray, it gave me a headache watching it in 3D on a television. lol Lucky HD is so nice with Coraline you don't need the 3D aspect to adore it's splender.
