    Default Alex exe

Hello...I have Alex expansion installed on my RTW folder, someone can help me explaining the procedure to port RTR FOE on alex exe, thanks.
Just another question, why so many general or family members, whenever one at the beginning of each shift ? i played 20 turns with epirote and i have almost more generals than soldiers ! In RTR TIC like in others mods this does not happen, it's really annoying, there is a solution ?

    thanks

I beleive that you are offered a lot of Family Members because the AI works to a city/family member ratio and tries to make the number of Family Members up based on how many settlements you have and this includes mini regions. You do not have to adopt them you can just refuse them or cherry pick the best ones. I think there is a thread with this discussed but I cannot remeber which one.

Sorry, I do not know about porting FOE to the Alex.exe.

As Rodders said, you should decline all adoption offers... (or at least almost every offer)

(there is also a loading screen tip telling you that)

One of the things you need to do to get ALX.exe to work in FOE is remove shield_wall from the units that have this assigned. Then you can use the ALX.exe as the game engine like the other mods that use it (I know because I tried it just out of curiosity, but prefer BI.exe versus ALX.exe due to comparision of strengths and weakness).

Here is a method used when porting EB to ALX.exe, so just substitute FOE for EB.

    RTW mods using ALX.exe

    You would need some changes:
    1. Change the shortcut to use RomeTW-ALX.exe, and add the "-noalexander" parameter.
    2. Copy the file alexander\Data\chat_filter.san to XXX\Data
    3. Immortal trait fix:
    Quote:
Just put the lines before all other traits in XXX\data\export_descr_character_traits.txt
    Code:
    Trait Immortal
    Characters family
    Hidden

    Level Immortal
    Description Immortal_desc
    EffectsDescription Immortal_effects_desc
    Threshold 1

    4. To enable naval invasions for all factions, open XXX\data\descr_sm_factions.txt and set all "prefers_naval_invasions ... no" lines to "yes"

    • Add these lines in your XXX\data\export_descr_VnVs_enums.txt: Immortal Immortal_desc Immortal_effects_desc
    6. Add these lines in your XXX\data\text\export_VnVs.txt {Immortal} Immortal
    {Immortal_desc} Hidden immortal trait
    {Immortal_effects_desc} No Effects

    RTW to ALX bugs

Most of us use default install location after which is always ''C:\Program Files\Activision\Rome - Total War\..'' but if you use any other HDisk drive to install Alexander - you have a problem!

The installer always checks drive C for disk space regardless of installation drive. If you try to install ALEX and the installer quits with "error -1" (or something like that) you are probably a victim of this bug.

To play EB with ALEX.exe you have to copy 2 files from the ALEX-CD to your harddrive!

    The easy one first:
Copy '' RomeTW-ALX.exe'' that can be found on the CD into your RTW installation folder, into the same directory where ''RomeTW.exe'' is and/or ''BI.exe'' (if you have one)
The second file is ''chat_filter.san''! This one is also on the CD, but it is packed in CAB files.

Here you need '' i6comp'' program
    To get i6comp go to:
    http://programmerstools.org/node/123

I will describe how to use i6comp to extract the CAB files, other tools can be found on the net - or google for it.

Unzip the download in some directory, say '' D:\extract''. This should give you, among others, the file ''i6comp.exe''.
From the ALEX CD copy the files ''data1.cab'', ''data1.hdr'' and ''data2.cab'' into the same directory.
Open a Text-editor and create a file ''i6comp.bat'' with the following line:
    ''i6comp e -r data1.cab''

Save the file in '' D:\extract''.

    Doubleclick '' i6comp.bat''.

This will extract A LOT of files and may take some time to complete.
When its done you should find ''chat_filter.san'' in ''D:\extract''.
    Copy ''chat_filter.san'' to ''<your RomeEB directory>\EB\data''.

Thanks for the answers, i already knew some of this procedure and i followed but something seems not work, for exp. the scripts, in standard RTR FOE BI exe when i reload a savegame the advisor tell me to activate the scrips but when i reload a savegame con ALEX exe and i click on a settlement the advisor does not appeare, i think in this case that does not work, the campaign proceeds but without script like vanilla mode, no better AI no retraining like in EB ALEX mod ecc. ecc.
Remains the problem of too generals/FM.

    Thanks
