    Default Invasions- a solution

I have discovered something about the working of invasions that might be of interest. It can become wearisome to be constantly fighting off invasions. If you're Rohan, it's Edoras-Edoras-Edoras all the time. As Gondor, frequently it's East Osgiliath-East Osgiliath-East Osgiliath. After you defeat the invasion, ten turns later it comes again, maybe after you had managed to make peace with some of the bad guys.

I've discovered that once a city falls to an invasion, it seems to be taken off of the priority list. So it might be a good idea, if you're up to your nose of fighting off endless invasions, to let the target fall. Preferably to one of those tiny remnant invasion armies that keep coming at you. "Invasion successful", then you're free to retake your city and make peace with one or more evil neighbors, as it befits your grand strategy. Even if you're not interested in peace, at least usually most invading armies will turn and go home. The next invasion will not be to that city, and probably it will be against some other faction.

Haven't tried it in a while, but I seem to recall you used to be able to assassinate crusading generals, and their followers would dissipate.

It worked. Too bad some factions don't have assassins.

For any who are interested by my FF on occurrences in Rhun and beyond; I have begun a new project (not because the old one is finished, just opening more room for ideas) about one of the minor characters, Rankal. It is in the Third Age AAR index and here is the link http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showthread.php?t=376994

Only once, when playing as HE. It was fun to reconquer (and keep) Eriador settlements after a successful invasion, still being in alliance with Eriador (and with outstanding relations)

I can hardly call this a solution. I mean how are you going for instance to manage that you will lose Edoras only to a small army? And if you lose Edoras your economy will take a big hit and it will always take some resources to take it back.

Bree is also on the the ''target list'' and in the couple of campaigns I have played thusfar Bree was always second or third on the list.

Playing as Mordor, I'm quite surprised with how many invasions are there. It's so often that yes, a player would be brought to his knees by that, except if he plays a faction in the far west.
    Good finding there.

As Rohan the invasion of Edoras occurs quite early at around turn 30-35. I like to RP, so giving up Edoras is not an option. Here's my strategy of hanging on...

It seems when your city is besieged if you attack the AI during the first turn your settlement is besieged (instead of waiting to be attacked) it will drop its siege weapons and just wait for you in the RTS battle. You need cavalry for this but all you do is sally out with you cavalry from on of the side gates and circle behind the AI. Then charge the AI Generals unit from behind (charge and feint and repeat until AI Generals unit is all but annihilated). If you feint a certain distance the AI will always stop pursuing and turn back around to face your castle so each of your Cavalry charge should be from behind. However, don't stop there, with 5 General units (Rohan Bodyguards) I was able to annihilate half of the army stacks send by Isengard, Rhun, Mordor etc during the entire invasion with minimal loss to my units each time using this method. This is great experience for your Generals (try not to kill them off). When your Cavalry is low in numbers (so as not to kill of your General) simply retreat and wait and fast forward the time increment and wait for timer to timeout and battle will be declared as draw (only thing is when you have wiped out 1500 of their men to only 80 loss of your generals bodyguard (which get replenished next battle) its a good draw ). Furthermore, because you've killed the invading AI General, its army will turn back and go home (as the general is not on crusade anymore since he is dead). Rinse and Repeat. After a few turns once all invading armies turn back (leaderless) the invasion will be called off.

As also mentioned before. If you have an assassin on hand you could try assassinate the AI General and the invading army will also turn back. The problem is that Vs the Great Generals you Assassins have a very poor success rate of only about 5-25% (depending on target). Not very reliable IMO, but certainly give it a go you never know when you might get lucky.

you should not (no one should) play TATW with limited battle time. the most epic battles take about 1,5 hours. this is what makes TATW so special.

You mean as an OoMM player, as Dwarves needs all the time they can to trap snagas, and snagas just need to flee on the map to win against attacking dwarves with the battle timer...

I prefer a draw over an endless chase so it doesn't matter on which site I am we are never going to catch those guys lets just retreat and beat the crap out of them at the next village

I once assassinated a king with a fresh recruited assassin, the chance was about 5 percent, so you never know what you'll get.
