Now, this is very easy to get to. not literarly, because no army can get close and poor old sauron cant get out, but you can play as him and the REBELS nontheless. Instructions-

Instructions
1. Go to the medieval 2 total war folder
2. go into mods- third age total war
3. go into data, world, maps, campaign, imperial_campaign
4. go into descr_strat
5. go to unplayable factions, the papal states is the dark lord and rebles are rebles.
6. make a backup copy just in case and cut and paste the two factions to playable list (i dont know if it has any effect, but i make them a straight line like the others).
7. go into third age, single player, campigan and you should get this picture-

Ummm, if you know anything about the Medieval Total War 2 and this mod, I would think you wouldn't be surprised by this. Obviously, in order to have Sauron give invasion missions he had to be the modified version of the Papal states. Obviously he had to be out of the way and unreachable in order to not be potentially attacked by neighboring factions and cause some really wierd if not game crashing outcomes. What happens to the stability of the game if he gets destroyed, I wonder?

Letting "SHOULD NOT BE SEEN" rebel, *ultra high taxes* then suiciding while attacking it results in a character named Sauron to appear with the model of a cardinal. The next turn, a new Sauron will appear as a military general with, strangely, an orc picture. The cardinal sauron will stick around. You can control the "Inquisitioners" of Sauron, but they can't do anything because their obedience is so low. Curiously, all of the Dark Lord's generals seem to have M2TW General's Bodyguard guarding them. It seems impossible for the Dark Lord to ever be elemininated from the game.
