you might need to adjust your action, if its what i think it is.... you will need to take your guitar to a local shop and ask then to set it up, it will cost money but it will play without buzzing and you can get them to polish the fretboard so its really nice to play on among other things

assuming that the sound is in fact a buzzing noise, how long have you been playing?

yeah its a buzzing noise. ive had it about 6 years but its a cheapo one (fender squire) and ive been playing on/ off in that time. any idea how much it would be because im not sure i want to spend money untill i know i will stick at it this time.

You're getting whats called fret buzz. And its pretty easy to sort out, as long as the neck of the guitar isnt damaged. It may take a bit of time, and some experimenting, to get it right. If you raise the action too high, it will make it more difficult to play (more space between the strings and the neck). If you lower it too much, it will buzz like mad. You'll probably need an allen Key (I think they are called Hex keys in the US)

To raise the action, you need to turn the screws that are positioned on each side of the bridge. (Make sure you detune the guitar so that the strings are nice and loose, or it could snap the strings). Only raise it in small increments, and make sure that you do both sides equally. Then, retune the guitar and see if the buzz has gone. If it hasnt, start again and raise it a bit more until the buzz goes.

Here's a link for more info Guitarzone forum

It could also be old strings. Maybe try changing the strings before you raise the action. And make sure they are put on securely.

If that doesnt work, then take it to the shop.

That is strange. There might be friction between the string and the bar, use sand paper on the bar and it might work, maybe. its never happened to me. You might also try just getting new strings. Slinky pink is the best for me

take it to a guitar shop and perhaps spend a little money on the repairs.

thanks m8. its very possible the necks damaged as its been getting knocked over quite a bit lately. (no stand and the table side is slippy ) but i had an old teacher that changed the action and looking at them they arent all even. could be it bt i dont remember. dont have and new strings but ive taken the old ones off and put them back on (after cleaning the neck and checking the fret bar) but to no avail. the strings are verry old though. anyways ill have a go at raising the action. it is only that one note though. if that fails its shop time probably
