    Define GC!

The next project from the RTR team may well be using all the faction slots and close to 199 regions.
While the map wont stretch from Britain to India, it will enable us to provide more detail in the area we do cover.

Thanks to FOE, alot of the work is already completed and we will endeavour to develop further those concepts.

Well, the GC as initally envisaged...with the map stretching from Britain to India...The mini campiagns were meant to be a forerunner to the GC.

    So, how many playable factions?

I think we should put this question about "Where is RTR 7 and what is RTR VII" in the FAQ...

But to answer your question, RTR 7 is indeed abandoned. In fact, looking at the date you joined the forum, it was already abandoned before you joined us here.

However some people took up where the RTR 7 team had left off. They decided to continue working on the mod and they named their project "RTR VII". But instead of doing it in one huge mod, they decided to complete the mod in small steps, starting with the mini-mod RTR VII: The Iberian Conflict (TIC), followed by the midi-mod (not mini) RTR VII: Fate of Empires. This is as far as we are now. We aren't sure yet about the name of our next project, but one thing is sure: it will be a real Grand Campaign streching from Iberia to the West-coast of Asia Minor (with Pergamon and such). It uses all faction, all region and almost all buildings slots allowed in RTW. It will even include some extra scripting and more work is being done on the traits.

So even though there will never be an "RTR 7" as the previous team has promised, there will be a next version of RTR. And even though it doesn't stretch all the way to India, it will be grand

Edit: 20 factions of which 17 will be playable

    Might be a good idea.

I pop in and check progess every now and again often months and months apart.

RTR 7 or RTR VII it's all the same to me, a grand campaign at the end of it. I as aware of the failure of RTR 7.0 along time ago, and as also aware that another team were going to produce a GC. I go right back to '06-'07 when the successor to RTR 6.0 was announced I probably still have the famous old 'political map' somewhere from way back when.

I always said it would never get finished in either form as initally planned...oh well.

I'm sure what you end up with will be 'grand', all RTR projects that came to fruition have been - that's if it ever gets finished of course....which has always been my bugaboo.I donlt think i'm entitled to anything at all by the way and I appreciate all the work people put into these mods - it's just that AT SOME POINT you actually have to finish the thing. 2010 now, probably into the 4th year at least of waiting for a completed succesor to RTR 6.

Ok, 17 factions sounds good, and if you're using all the regions then smaller map doesn't really matter, it's still a huge 'playing field' only geographically smaller. Not a big issue.

Not a fan of mini-campaigns to be honest though i'm sure they're good, I'm a 1st year History Undergraduate so I don't have much time anymore for RTR, though I look forward to my 'campaign season' after Uni finishes for the year in June. Hopefully you will have finished your final project - the revised GC by then...

    Good luck with it anyway.

Modding isn't usually paid. At some point, you don't have to finish the thing. Modders don't have to do anything.

I highly recommend that you play Fate of Empires, regardless of whether you don't think you're interested in mini-campaigns. It's got a huge map, detailed factions, and the play-balance is superb, both in battle and on the strategic map.

If first-year undergraduates don't have time for games, then I don't know universities are doing these days....

I'm aware that things don't have to be finished, and no-one has a right to expect them to be, as I intimated earlier, though for a project in itself to be have a chance deemed a success (if completed i'm certain it will be) it has to be completed, otherwise it doesn't exist. That's what I meant.

I may well play FOE at some point, get a taste of what is to come eh?

FOE isn't a mini-campaign, it's been described as a medi-campaign. The main thing is that it feels big, which is largely a function of some of the innovations of the team economically - you can't just steamroll your enemies. Completing it gave me a similar feeling of accomplishment to my success in RTR 6.0. Its focus on the Punic Wars also fixes one of the major problems with RTW and many of its mods. The Punic Wars just generally aren't well-represented.

My first-year education was in Soul Calibur and Halo. And history, too. Learned a lot of that. But more Soul Calibur.

Hey, wait, we did release FOE, you have to give us that

And I can assure you that the next installment will be released, and in the coming year, unless things change horrendously (touch wood ). I can also assure you that it will be way better than FOE, which is already one of the best mods out there.

Yes, without a doubt, credit here it is due. My focus has always been a GC's though. But hats off for the minis that have been released.

I wait with baited breath for what i'm sure will be a superior MOD.

What are the plans for future I read something about 'kingdoms'??? - To be honest with you, I never really moved on from RTR 6.0 with Naval Mod, I didn't think much to MTW 2 - it's like going back to vanilla Rome Total War after RTR - shallow and depressing.

Some members from the RTR 7 team stayed on to work on RTR VII TIC, so it wasn't a different team. Once that mini-mod was released many of the original team members left. However, the RTR team has never been 'static' in it's composition - it's always been changing.

Well if you want, you can blame the people who came up with the RTR7 concept for creating false hope and me for taking it away again. Whichever you prefer . Anyway, there are enough existing RTR mods to confuse the public so let's not make that worse by discussing fictitious ones eh?
