Thread: What do I buy?

I have seen Napoleon TW on sale on steam for £24.99 with a copy of MTW2 which I have. I do fancy the Imperial editiom and wonder if it is worth the extra.
With steam you don't get a disc or any other stuff.
However I have seen Play.com offering £29.99 for the Imperial edition with an "Unlock of units" add on and the box and maps etc or the standard set for £17.99 with an "unlock of units"

I am sorry but I am confused, has anyone got any advice

    Thanks in advance

I think imperial edition is the best choice: you have 15 units more and you have a cd.

Support physical media and get the DVD.
The extra development time will allow us to finalize and polish Empire, making it the most accomplished and epic of the Total War series." said Kieran Brigden, Studio Communications Manager at The Creative Assembly. "There is a great deal of anticipation around Empire: Total War and we want to ensure that it is the benchmark for strategy games upon its release.

I would most certainly buy the imperial edition on play but how does the money conversion work for an American credit card?

And is there any sites other than play or stores for that matter that sell the imperial edition? All I have found in the US is the limited edition at gamestop that has a ton of units but no imperial edition in sight.

I would get the regular edition so as you don't have buyers remorse afterwards. If the game turns out solid and worth the money then you can always buy the extra dlc later. I would spend as little as possible initially until you have established whether it works ok for you and whether you consider it worth the money.

Hate to burst your whining bubble but the only one available in places like EBgames is the Limited Edition itself which is going for $40 (Standard it seems)

    I don't see Bestbuy/Futureshop doing anything different.

So in other words us North Americans may all end up buying the Limited Edition while you go and buy the regular for the same price but without the extra units (wherever that copy would be)

EDIT: Now that I look at STEAM it seems that the STEAM pre-purchase for regular is the worse deal out of the retailers.

I'm pleased Americans will get it so cheap, in the UK (where I assume BobMcDee is from as he quoted £ prices in the initial post) the standard retail version is around £25-£30 and £40 for the imperial version. Although I defended Empire more than most when it was released Napoleon seems not to be much more than a glorified expansion being passed off as a full sequel, which is disheartening as a consumer - so I would always recommend people to go for the cheapest option first and invest more money later if they like the game. I have never heard of anybody who after playing a more expensive version of any game say afterwards that it was worth the money. All imperial edition seems to have are a few re-skinned units as a gimmick, not worth the £10 for people who have the choice.

EDIT - Oh and it has a nice box, though as the game won't need a disk to play, or even have a box from steam for that matter, this is another gimmick. The cheapest price on play seems the only reasonable price, £30 or £40 is too much for an expansion pack.

You know I could never understand the British. Everything there is like the same but twice the cost.

I do agree that £30 is too much for an expansion but are you sure you can't get it elsewhere cheaper in England for equivalent North American price?
