Prussia for me, superior infantry wins my matches.
In what way is prussian infrantry superior?
They get Line Infantry with 35 reload insted of 25 reload, atleast last time I checked, when in a line battle that reload matters in early and late period both. Prussia also gets Superior Line Infantry which are even better almost as good as Guard Regiments of Line Infantry.

And how is Austria with al those great light infantry ?
They used to have "great" light infantry, back when there were no restrictions. Their normal Light Infantry the Jaegers used to have rifles but they removed them for fairness sakes and gave them muskets. Their only really great unit for multiplayer now are the double barral musket Light infantry since their rifle regiment is limited to just two per MP battle now.

IMHO, most of the factions are pretty balanced by now. Choose whatever faction suits your playstyle best.
The more you play with a specific army, the more you will be able to learn how to use it, and modify it to get rid of its weaknesses.
I keep a number of setups prepared and adjust them depending on what faction the opponent chooses and what map I play on.
Also, the more melee-based factions like Marathas and Natives are a bit stronger in early games and on flattish maps where they can more easily attack the opponent's flanks.

US or UK in my opinion, marines+maryland for the US, and morgan's rifles. For the UK fergusons is a sufficient motivation.
My money is on Austria for best MP faction. The grenz can lay down a withering salvo of fire, are inexpensive, and have access to loose formation. Your line infantry squads are an excellent example of quantity over quality, and thw windbusche is in my oppinion the scariest weapon in the game. Almost every game i bring winds, they are out of ammo by the end of it, which is a good thing. On top of that, access to top class light cav at a great price in the form of hungarian hussars makes Austria a real power house. US and great britain are also top tier, but i think austria may be the one that takes the cake.
Actually, the Austrian line inf's lack of morale makes them a dangerous asset IMHO. I'd be sure to have a guard unit around to make sure they don't mass rout as I've seen them do often enough.
It's true that the wbj are the "scariest" weapon in the game, mostly because of them staying concealed while moving and shooting; however, my vote for the deadliest weapon goes to the Fergusons as Hekko says. (actually, since you encounter campers so often, they may be in a tie with howitzers; but for those, numbers are missing due to the quicklime not counting and they are not exactly faction-specific...)
Because I avoided to commit earlier, I'm going with GB as well. It's not only the Fergs, but also the Green Jackets which I still manage to lose my cav against because I charge them out of reflex, forgetting about their insane melee stats every time.![]()

Dutch and the Americans. Dutch, Swiss Inf, and US, Good Light Inf!![]()
I beg to differ, Austria has solid light infatry, but it takes some micro to use it properly, on the other hand you pay handsomely for the privilege of having the worst line infatry in game with no real workable options. To quote Uhtred "If you get into a line battle while playing with Austria, you've already lost". That says something about the faction.
I think Austria and UK are tied.

Spain and France aren't far behind IMO.
Grenzers are insanely powerful, it depends on the player's styles, only people that make a good aggressive build will do well with Grenzers as they lack range. Windbusche Jaegers are powerful too but I think it depends on where you send them out, if you plan on taking out an elite, its your best bet, if you plan on taking out a austrian line, use something else, I have actually had a battle where my austrian line held against for a few volleys of the wbjs before i finished off my guy from behind and hit his wbjs. The most powerful nation i would say though would have to be United states, Their US marines tear up the Prussian line inf which cost about the same i believe, they have the best and cheapest rifles in the game, the only down side is their regular line inf which isn't resistant to morale shocks so spamming line inf with them is pretty idiotic. I think my favorite nation of all though is France for its Bulkeleys, it also okay line inf, perfect for an aggressive player.
1. France
2. US
3. GB and Prussia
Everyone will have their own opinions, obviously.
