I have heard something about an invisible 'pillar' on which the unit model was made, so in fact they do touch the ground, you just can't see it. And I have seen flying dragons somewhere in a youtube vid, can't remember which mod though .

In LOTRTW for RTW Alexander expansion, they made fellbeasts in this way. They were immensely tall elephants with invisible legs, but the flying animation was done pretty well, even though their attack was very slow, buggy, and didn't really take out many men at one time. there was a problem with how they looked when turning, of course. *sigh* It would be great to have flying units like in BFME.

since they SHOULD almost kill a unit in 2-3 attacks, and SHOULD be amost invulnerable to arrows

how in he world would u kill it?

of course they dont have such thick skin as a troll and arrows could do some damage, but still u would need A LOT of arrows....

A wizard. Or a robot with laser beams. I think they are not only adding easy enemies but well the animations and looks of those "flying" pillar beasts are terrible in my opinion.

Even if those animations would be done well, there are two issued that can`t be fixed.

    1. They are able to get hurt by melee units.

    2. They won`t be able to fly over things. Not over units nor walls.

    Not true in my experience.

Once I had made the elephant "node" too tall for melee units to hit them, unless they had spears or other long weapons.
It was facepalming for days not finding out WHY the swordmen gathered around an elephant and couldn't touch him, although with two handed swords or long spears they were hit.

IMO a fell beast would be easy to take down by a few barrages of arrows, though a dragon...

Legolas took one down with a single arrow.

Over units were will, because If the "invisible feet" are narrow, there will pass acrosse the unit. But for the Walls I agree, it's a matter.

    in any case

to the main question, possible? yes it is, but as you can see there are many complications

mainly in siege battles, they can not "jump" over the walls and start killing, altough i think it could be done with a little imagination, but it would be very very limited

and in general battles, as said, some units just stay and try to hit them, while they get killed, the AI would send them to attack the fellbeast, and they would run around the invisble wall and get killed by enemy arrows or charges

But if the fellbeast model is made on an elefant model, it means they can go trough gates

I don't think thats possible at all with the current engine, not even with a little bit of imagination.

Simply put, the engine isnt equipped to handle flying units. You'll have to make a new engine, nay, a whole new game, basically, if you want flying units.
