    Default Scotland

I need help I play as England alot and no matter how good I have my relations with scotland they still attack me with several full stacks. I loos every time when this happens. I find it impossible to fight off Ireland Scotland France and Norway when they raid plus when the pope calls a crusade all at the same time.

How do I keep from getting into a war with Scotland?
I know there is the option to have diplomatic standings as historically done or let them progress depending on decisions mad in the game. I have done both

And I think I have sean this discussed a long time ago but I cant remember for the life of me if it was for sure I may be imagined things but does the enemy recruit way to many armies to where it may be a bit unrealistic?? I love this mod and im not trying to insult anyone but it seams that the enemy always has 5 times as many army's as I do.

I dont mind a challenge im just concerned with the realism aspect in regards to this question

To play DLV, you should either focusing on geographically crushing every neighbour to carve out an empire or play civil and maintain a health dominating respect between you, your kingdom and your neighbours. This is the personal playing styles:

    1. DLV Total war. You crush anything at sight, to few will trade with you and diplomaty works only with a big bag of money. Description: Mostly straight forward if you know DLV, tho you must focus more on military endurence and cunning tactics.

    2. DLV Civil. Your not that big, but you uphold a health trade system and diplomacy work like a slick cat. Description: http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showthread.php?t=321049

It looks like you went away with option 1, but to much resistance force you into a hasty retreat Choose wisly from the begining.

When it comes to the word realism, then I would say that is pretty subjective. On the other hand, the name of the game is Total War, you just asked for it.

Thorolf was thus armed. Then Thorolf became so furious that he cast his shield on his back, and, grasping his halberd with both hands, bounded forward dealing cut and thrust on either side. Men sprang away from him both ways, but he slew many. Thus he cleared the way forward to earl Hring's standard, and then nothing could stop him. He slew the man who bore the earl's standard, and cut down the standard-pole. After that he lunged with his halberd at the earl's breast, driving it right through mail and body, so that it came out at the shoulders; and he lifted him up on the halberd over his head, and planted the butt-end in the ground. There on the weapon the earl breathed out his life in sight of all, both friends and foes. [...] 53, Egil's Saga
I must tell you here of some amusing tricks the Comte d'Eu played on us. I had made a sort of house for myself in which my knights and I used to eat, sitting so as to get the light from the door, which, as it happened, faced the Comte d'Eu's quarters. The count, who was a very ingenious fellow, had rigged up a miniature ballistic machine with which he could throw stones into my tent. He would watch us as we were having our meal, adjust his machine to suit the length of our table, and then let fly at us, breaking our pots and glasses.

did you take york? i have found playing as England if you ignore france for a bit and make sure you take york that will pretty much guarantee you the island.

if your concern is just too much enemy troops, why now lowering your difficulty setting to HH or NN?

A better way to cope would be to refuse the extra AI money script.

The game is thoroughly tested on VH/VH, playing a different difficulty is playing an untested game - I would expect it to be broken.

I play as England more than other factions. Scotland causes me a lot of woe. This new 6.2 campaign, with Taiji's BB had them 'on my case' within no time! My strategy is; with draw my men from Caen (across the channel) as soon as the general has been given the title for that settlement. Then, I move him to Lonodon with the rest of his men and give/sell Caen to the Flemish for an enduring Alliance (and access rights too for returning to hire those great Pikemen!). I then concentrate all my forces in the south east of England and mop up the large rebel stacks. Hiring Welsh spearmen and Longbowmen help at this stage. I take York and then Dumfries. At this point the Scots were breathing down my neck and kept threatening Dumfries.

By this time, the only unit I left of the continnet was my diplomat who (after making the land-deal with the Flemish) has reached ROME. I gave Dumfries to the Vicar of Rome - which really hindered Scotland. I then pulled the army back to York. Just in time for Scotland beseiged it several times and I had to fight them off in defence - just winning through.

    EXCOMM'D
Then, Scotland's leader gets kicked out of the church and the very next turn I call a CRUSADE upon it - instantly earning 2500 florins for joining which immediatly purchase three heavy crusader knights, some tough spearmen and crossbowmen. The crusade army headed by my fighting prince flattens their full stack in the border regions and then I move the crusade army into Scotland itself; raising the axe wielding infantry and more crossbowmen. Several turns later Edinburgh is taken, the crusade is over, my army is more experienced and poised to threaten Aberdeen next. The council call for the taking of Aberdeen; which I carry out with my hard-bitten army. My reward are 4 super crusade swordsmen (the black armoured loonies). They are making their way up from London and will give my army really hard 'teeth' for chewing up the last Scot's army. I'll not kill them off - instead leave them there - just wear them down a bit everytime they get a bit 'uppish'.

    NEXT?
Once I've trimmed the Scot's garrasion at Inverness down to a few bitter broken men I'll have made enough to support an secondary full stack army. I pool the best units into the first army stacks for pacifying the Welsh and taking southhampton from the rebels before the Irish move in. I'm building light horse scouts as they are great for wiping out enemy missle units that get too cocky in battle and get too far form their lines when trying to get at my ranks with their pissy little arrows.

So, Try taking Dumfries before scotland and giving it to his Popeliness - it's a sure cahnce of getting Scotland in his holinessessss bad books and the pleasure of calling a crusade against Edinburgh - and then taking it - was a cunning stroke I'd never pulled off before. My game looked so sunk early on when the Scot's were dominating with more armies - now they're turned and I've got the wealth of Edinburgh and Aberdeen instead of them using it to threaten my northern border again.

    Off to play now...
