    Default Beornings Question

Has anyone here managed to piss off a beorning unit enough to make them turn into bears? It is implied in both their description and their custom battle powers... but havnt had any luck yet.

I don't know what game your playing but in Third Age total war Beornings are a weak rebel unit that are FUBAR to my Silvan archers.

Are you sure you read the description properly?

You can keep trying mate, it'll never happen.

It's not possible to shape-shift ingame. It's only mentioned in the description to give you, well, a more lore-wise description. But, unless I'm wrong, the Vale of Anduin submod will also include bears as units.

Lore wise it is also not correct. The Beornings didn't transform, they were those that lived with the race that did transform. Their 'people' if you would. The beijabar were the ones that transformed. (What Beorn and Grimbeorn were)

Yeah we will, but most likely not in the first release though.

What's a beijabar? Beorn and his descendants had the ability to transform into bears for many generations. Their people; the Beornings where most likely Woodmen that accepted Beorn as their overlord. They could indeed not transform into bears, unless they would be somehow related to Beorn.

Actually I agree, it says they can in the description. And no, I did not drink today.

No. Description says they are "also known as skin-changers", and they "are supposed to be able to change into bears". It does not say they can, it says we believe they could do.

    Did Tolkien write the descriptions?

No he died before he could finish but Christopher Tolkien collected his tatw description notes, edited and released them. We are not waiting for the Book of Lost Descriptions to see what J.R.R.'s early draft looked like.

    Btw the descriptions are nice.

Maybe we can make some bear cavalry units. Woodsmen riding bears, huh huh? With giant two handed axes...I like the way I think sometimes.

Spoiler Alert, click show to read:

What if his early descriptions include goblins riding spiders?

We pull a Da Vinci Code and cover that sucker up until one day a famous Tolkienologist discovers the hidden clues in one of John Howe's lesser known illustrations. Then we follow that bastard around trying to kill him but he always gets away somehow even though we're a super secret organization with access to elite ninja assasins and he's just some nerd. Eventually our secret is revealed and we bow our heads in shame.

You need the Wheat Sword for it to work.

...and are dragged off into the back of the paddywagon screaming "that man is KK! he knows where the lost descr_units.txt file is!"

On a serious note, IIRC there is a script out there to allow for dismounting troops before battle. If this is so I imagine there is a long-winded script-heavy way that some modder could code it so the Beornings unit could be deployed in man or bear form at the player's choice. I'd love to see that mod but I guess there are plenty more pressing concerns for the brilliantly performed and hard working team (cough*dragons*cough).
