I still play all of those ( romeTW, M2TW and empire) and i problably continue playing em
I don't actually like the Napoleonic period much, so I might give it a try in a year or so, but expect to stay with MTW.
MTW has a lot of potential for ACW, late Japanese and Asian mods, so I expect to say with it for a while. If they produce a ACW or Crimean game next, I will get that.
Well apparently NTW will 'upgrade' your original ETW game when you install it, presumably adding in the features that were supposed to be in the game originally. This would persuade me to go back and play it to get a feel how ETW SHOULD have been.

This thread will tell you all about the confirmed upgrades.

As others have said, not gonna happen.
CA never claimed NTW would upgrade ETW. It was an assumption that previewers picked up from the forums. When it then showed up in print, the forums believed the previewers were confirming their false belief.
Mike Simpson's latest blog and Kieran's previous statements stress that NTW's code is incompatible with Empire. If you look at the product listings, they all stress that NTW is "completely separate". If NTW were going to upgrade Empire, I'd imagine the product listings on Amazon, etc would advertise that fact to lure in ETW owners.

I will probably buy it a month after release. I assume it will be pretty good, everything Empire should of been.
Delaying the purchase is my own little protest. I think everyone who still plans on buying it but is unhappy about CA should do the same. You would take enough fire out of the release that they would have to listen to the community, and hopefully reverse this really bad spiral they are currently on.
Kye.
I don't plan to unless CA goes back and fixes ETW.

The thing is, ETW and NTW are so similar why would you bother? the previous TWs are reasonably different enough to go back and replay, even the old MTW and the newer MTW2 are different enough to replay due to the passage of time and technology between the two.
But NTW and ETW? Why would one spend £30 on one then £30 on the other and bother going back to the former less than a year later for almost exactly the same old thing? Especially if the Newer vesrion is better fixed than the old same thing? Whatcha going to do? Say `Oh yes, this ETW is just like NTW but broken. I see the difference. Yes..."

I'll give it a chance, but I agree with your sentiment. I REALLY don't like the Europe-only map. I don't see how naval battles are going to be relevant with such a map (which is why I bought ETW). I mean, ships are terrible at interception, and if you blockade they cannot build new ships so your fleet will just sit there unchallenged unless someone new enters the war and attacks you. Boring. In ETW a good navy was critical to keeping trade from your colonies viable, which is the role navies traditionally played in the time period. And Napoleon is of only minor interest to me. I really wish they'd import some of the new game mechanics back into ETW. Especially the part about making protectorates. There have been many times where I would have liked to be able to make a protectorate out of a conquered territory in ETW.
Napoleonic age was TOOO colorful. I will most likely stick with Empire Total War for a long while before touching Napoleon, it's slightly less colorful except a couple of units. Just too simple minded of a person to find a dozen colors on a uniform as well stylish. Enjoyed the time when olive draft, gray, and browns took over the fields during the turn of the century. I guess it's why my favorite point in history is the end of the 19th and begining of the 20th Century. I like to call it the Age of Wonder, we thought we could go anywhere and do anything, exploration of the world was booming. No cell phones or automobiles around every corner and no Jet planes filling the sky and destroyed it's beauty. Only plus which came from 9/11 was the skies were completely clear, a very rare moment to just walk out and see not one con trail from a jet in the air.
