    Default Rhun/Guide/Discussion

Just enjoyed a 150 turn campaign for Rhun.

Got over 30 regions in about 6-7 hours.

Rhun is amazingly fun to play after you finish off dale. Dale was a pain in the butt. They only had Esgaroth left and 2 full stacks guarding the entrance. I brought a stack ( with a ballista ) out of dale and left 1 unit in dale. The 2 stacks took the bait and I got esgaroth woohooo. After that I enjoyed about 45 turns of peace until I generated 2 stacks of different clansmen ie) dismounted riders, etc, etc, etc ( dont have a city large enough to manufacture the yellow dudes )

So if you people ever get the chance play for Rhun. Also, tips against dwarves. Those lil buggers are a pain due to their all-round heavily armored infantry. So I reccomend this army style. About 6 Clan Swordsmen. 6 dismounted riders or the clansmen crossbowmen. 3 clansmen cavlary. and 3-6 variag riders. Set up so that your archers are in front of your infantry and cavlary on the sides. Keep shooting the enemy with archers untill they come in contact with your front line. Then wait a bit ( they will have a few men countering your cavlary that just flanked them ) . After you destroy the small bits that detach from the army hit the flank of their main force that was attacking your main force.

As you moderators may think this is a guide I would encourage people to post about their time playing as rhun and thoughts about this wonderful nation.

The thing I find about playing Rhun or Dale is that whoever owns Uldonovan from the beginning will usually win the war, as its the only castle in the region. In my campaigns, as soon as I get my clans up to scratch I find it pretty easy to annhiliate Dale, that is until you get to Easgaroth and Dale itself, which are best off assaulted at the same time, otherwise they end up outnumbering you 3 to 1. When I first fought the dwarves with Rhun I was surprised at how easy they were to beat. Bearing in mind I had my dragon regiments at the time, but even in the early stages when all I had were a few Loke-Rim and some clan guard the dwarves were ridiculously easy to slaughter, even with 8 units of iron guard dancing around I'd massacre them easily and waltz through their lands. But maybe that's just me and my archer heavy armies....

You don`t even need that much infantry against dwarves- Some skirmishers and archers and one or two general units.

    General units solve everything.

Never really played with rhun but in my campaigns rhun is usually destroyed by dale and then dale becomes the worlds super power ( besides me of course ).

I'm playing Rhun right now. The battle with the dwarves it's easy but annoying since i have to fight every turn a full stack. Still a great campaign.
Too bad that after destroing dale neitherthe elves nor the dwarves attacked me. I had time to rebuild my army and strike first. Campaign AI should be more aggressive.

Rhun has a wonderfully versatile roster. All those fast skirmishers are very hard for the Dwarves to deal with, and once you start getting some decent Rhun cavalry (or just the generals as has been said) you can really start hurting them.

    Rhun BGs are fun.
Once I had full stack of bgs, and when Dark Lord called invasion I joined with this stack.
No desertions, a lot of movement points, auto-replenishing units, ability to recruit 'crusade' orcs if needed.
Of course, this stack "slightly missed" target of invasion and was on a rampage in western provinces of Gondor when I've got corrupted save

I hate dwarves. I fought 2 armies of 1,000 people each. I annhilated one with about 5% loss but my variag archers ran out of arrows. Melee combat started with my infantry, I flanked them and surrounded all of them. It took 5 minutes on x6 and suffered over 30% losses by surrouding the dwarves. They were only shaken after they had like 10 people per squad left.

Better to withdraw after you run out of arrows/javelins, just retreat and fight them again next turn.

I truly loved when the ai did not attack me. It gave me time to rebuild, regroup, and start fighting. I currently have about 6-7 stacks and over 100,000 gold. Time to play for someone else, I am to OP for Rhun.

Probably because Rhun is the easiest faction.

I think they just need to make dwarves and elves more aggressive so you will not have the time to rebuild an army after destroying Dale.
Or just have the good faction helps each others a little more. Don't know if it's possible.

In most of the campaigns I played, dwarves do a pretty good and they usually develop into a superpower. Elves usually do a poor job, but thats just what they are.
As for good factions helping each other, I believed there was a good vs evil submod out there, but I don't know if it is compatible with the 1.4 version.

Well dwarves do really good only when i'm playing a good faction. I'm gonna try good vs evil mod as soon as it' compatible with 1.4.
I really enjoy a campaign when during the midgame i'm surrounded by enemies

Agreed. You have 100% safe border to the east and south, a great roster and mines in most provinces. Its still a fun faction, but not the hardest by a long shot....

If they're still around, the Silvan Elves will provide a good challenge, as their mid-tier units are as good, if not better, than Rhun's Loke-Rim troops (at least their archers are better). Plus, the Variag Raiders, which are the most important troops in my Rhunnic armies, don't fare too well in the forests of Mirkwood.

Personally, I think Rhun has too many gold mines, which give it an unfair advantage when coupled with its position.

Just started playing as Silvan Elves. Made an alliance with OOTM and Isenguard so I am concentrating all my forces on Mordor. Just took the black gate and have a full stack of uruks and trolls laying siege to me. ( only 50 turns and they already got uruks and trolls >.< )
