Histwar or NTW?

The two games will be released in the same time, what will you buy?

Well NTW hasnt had a demo yet, so I cant say on that, but I wont get Histwar I just couldnt make out the stupid interface...

Both probably but maybe neither. I need to read some feedback on both after release first. I agree that the UI for LG was a chore but if the game is solid I can deal with it. If the NTW AI is not a complete joke I will almost certainly get it. I want to buy both but we will see.

The demo II is out for those who have pre-ordered Histwar and it's much more better than the first demo, the public version should be released soon.

Whats the appeal of histwar? it looks kinda crappy to me but i always pick depth over graphics. So what has it got that i could look foward to?

oh and its a french game isnt it, has anyone else noticed the pun? HistWar, and the french for history is Histoire. haha clever.

HistWar lacks campaign system so it can not be alternative against NTW now.
But I hope that this succeed as tactical game at first and would be a competitor against Total War in the future.

It looks very intersting but no British as far as I can see. There is the ability to mod your armies and create your own battles and I like the huge numbers and proper organisation into divisions and brigades. I'll give it a go but I wish there was a campaign game. It looks like a hardcore wargamer's game compared to NTW which will appeal more to the general gamer.
I wonder why no British or Spanish and Portuguese though. The Peninsular battles are so well documented that it would be easy to recreate them with the editor.

I guess the wanted to concentrate on the main battles of Napoleonic wars. Also he is French, and not from English speaking country. In fact Napoleonic communites in Europe are huge - you just dont see them much on English speaking forums -they dont really care if British are included.

British like Prussian, Belgian, Dutch, Portuguese, Spanish will be integrated in the first expansion and its an hudge work because they reproduced hundred historical uniforms for each factions (for the 15 actual nations there are about 4.000 uniforms).
Histwar looks like an "Hardcore game" because of the graphism but it's very simple to play and with only some orders you could play a battle entirely.
NTW won't reproduce the Napoleonic battles, it will be only a small skirmirshing without the Napoleonic formations whereas Histwar is reproducing the formations but also the delay orders, the weather... and it's the only game which could put 50.000 soldiers on the battlefield.

If the graphism and the campaign is more important, NTW will be the must have
If you think that the battles is the core of the Napoleonic wars and that the gameplay, the AI, the historical accuracy and the number of soldiers are more important, Histwar will be the must have.

Histwar looks interesting, but hardly comparable to NTW. Histwar looks like it is dedicated to the hardcore wargamer.

I will wait a year and buy them cheap and debugged.

Do you have any tutorials for making sense of the histwar interface?

Yes, in the demo you have one tutorials and it has been improved in the demo II.
I have understood the interface with 3 normal games without tutorials and manual, once you have understood how to give the orders (attack, defend, diversion, march) and the use of the 3d/2d views the rest is easy.

Actually it looks very interesting and I could run a campaign using a board game like 'Age of Napoleon' but play the Histwar battles on pc. Thanks for the info. Is there a French forum somewhere for this game ?

Exactly, you could also play NTW for the campaign and jump in Histwar for the battles.
