Default Longest running most elaborate scam ever?

    http://www.nolanchart.com/article7249.html

I'm actually now starting to think that these guys are (potentially deluded) absolutely convinced they are bringing a genuine energy product to market.

I've been following this case for years, and now I am convinced it isn't a scam, though that doesn't mean it can bring a product to market. Either way it is highly interesting, like watching a TV show and waiting for that big final season finale.

If you don't know what it is all about then research STEORN.

How in the hell do they get an induction gain and perform work? I work daily with squirrel cage induction motors, but am not well versed in the theory.

The only difference between the expression of an opinion and an incitement in the narrower sense is the speaker's enthusiasm for the result. Eloquence may set fire to reason." -Oliver Wendell Holmes Jr.

No idea I am not well versed in the theory at all but other people have said they are making ludicrous claims. The only thing that baffles me is that they have scientists independantly verifying it, and they've been pushing this for over ten years with some serious money going into it.

If this is true, meaning that work can be performed with an energy gain, then we have a perpetual motion machine. The oil companies are going to nut.

Damn... I thought this thread was going to be on Social Security...
To be governed is to be watched, inspected, directed, numbered, regulated, enrolled, indoctrinated, controlled, checked, estimated, valued, censured, and commanded, by creatures who have neither the right, wisdom, nor virtue to do so. To be governed is to be at every operation, at every transaction noted, registered, taxed, measured, numbered, assessed, licensed, admonished, reformed, corrected, and punished. It is, under pretext of public utility, and in the name of the general interest, to be placed under contribution, drilled, fleeced, exploited, monopolized, extorted, and robbed; then, at the slightest resistance, to be repressed, fined, vilified, harassed, abused, disarmed, choked, imprisoned, judged, condemned, shot, deported, sacrificed, sold, and betrayed; and to crown all, mocked, ridiculed, derided, outraged, and dishonored. -Pierre-Joseph Proudhon

I have serious doubts about this myself.

I know it sounds ridiculous but the point is if it is fake which it in all probability is then why the hell is it going so far?

Although it seems pretty anti-climactic for the guys who are out to change the world forever! There must be something more there - is it an art project?

I initially thought that it was about proving how good they were at PR (they were previously a PR company I believe) but the only problem with that theory is that they've get this going for fricking years.

Still I guess they could be doing it to sell an overpriced gadget. If they get some investors, sell a few thousand of those and get some more capital flowing in then it would possibly be worth it.... lot to do for ten years of work though.

The thread is not so much questioning whether or not Steorn has a workable concept but their motive for running a decade long scam without seeming hope of a fiscal reward at the end of it.

Well, lets see they have collected over 10 million euros in exchange for stock in Steorn. I think thats financial gain.

Not considering how much work and investment has been required to generate this kind of publicity and the other costs. 10 million Euro's is really small beans.

Did you even contemplate which forum you were in, if I had a giant rubber boot and could get it through the internet I'd toe punt you to the Ethos. It wasn't an open question.

Do you have access to their accounting records? For all you know no money at all has gone into the construction/research of their machine. The ads they have run like costs several thousands of dollars each. But I can't see much else they did that would cost them a lot of money. Where is the investment you are seeing? Cause frankly I don't see any on their part. Most of the publicity stems from a single ad taken out of smallish newspaper. None of the other events were ever held, they didn't pay the jury (I don't think they did). So I am having trouble seeing where they might be losing money on this.

I believe it was quoted as them originally having spent £75000 pounds on the initial adverts. Furthermore the capital that they received was a mixture of venture capital and loans. Steorn has 10-20 employees and Office space designed to house their employees and 300 engineers as well as the public demonstrations. Office space like that can cost upwards of 200000 euros a year. Not to mention the CEO's not inconsiderable salary of 250000 euros a year this company is not making a profit on the mixture of investments and loans.

edit: Oh and Holgar stop trolling the thread.

This sounded interesting, I thought they had invented a time machine [even if only working in small increments]. However after seeing the photo’s [below] the whole thing looks preposterous, I expected more. shame.

    On wiki it said this…

In June 2009 the jury gave its unanimous verdict that Steorn had not demonstrated the production of energy.
