...you could try using this campaign_script file. I was suffering from said problem, where save games became corrupted and crashed to the desktop with some variation of the "medieval 2 has encountered an unspecified error and will now close" message whenever I tried to load them. After reading around the RR/RC thread I found that it was most likely caused by certain siege_settlement scripts, and it was suggested by someone (sorry I don't remember who) that a possible fix might be to disable the scripts in question. So, following that advice, I went through the campaign_script file and disabled all the siege_settlement scripts. The result is that I can play the current version of RR/RC compilation without any errors whatsoever, and no more save game destroying CTD upon load bugs.
Nothing has changed in this script file other than simply editing out (by using a " ; ") any lines that contained siege_settlement. The AI still sieges fine, you still have Teutonic emergence, Bulgarian uprising, Mongols, Timurids and so on, and they still function and siege perfectly fine.
If you do decide to use this file, just copy paste it into your Medieval II Total War\mods\Stainless_Steel_6\data\world\maps\campaign\imperial_campaign folder BUT BACKUP THE OLD ONE just in case. I have had no problems whatsoever using this script file, but it never hurts to be safe. This is obviously just a bandaid fix until people with real know how can actually fix the problem, but it can potentially allow you to play until they do (at least it has for me).
Thanks again PB everyone whos work was incorporated into the compilation for a great submod, as much as I like SS vanilla, I just can't possibly play without RR/RC comp anymore.
Oh and FIRST.
Edit: This is for the early era campaign only.
