I recently reformatted and I can now do battles with 3-4 armies no lag. I also went into preferences and made it so I can have unlimited me on the field. Its not the actual screenie since I haven't uploaded them yet, but it is exactly the same thing: 4 armies against one.
Second thing, is there some way to really decrease the growth of cities or as the Romans make the legions recruitable in every large city I own? I never liked being able to make legions in a city and not retrain others, since they are basically the same thing except they look a little different.

I see you have battle time limit off. Whats the longest it has ever taken you to finish a battle?

Like an hour and a half. I had to pause and go get a drink. It was however a pretty uneventful battle because of my sqaure tactic. Usually I march towards the enemy till they charge me, then hit and run with cav on 1 flank and eventually just roll up the line. Never fails.

Never does fail. It works well with Romans, but Macedonians do it better.

What are your specs? Do you have a solid rig? Are your settings maxxed out? I have a dual-core E5200 2.5ghz and a 9800GT w/4GB of RAM on windows 7 64bit, I lag horribly on any more than 2000 men even with mid settings...

Eh, big fight, but the biggest battle I ever fought was in Barbarian Invasion. Fought the entire slavic nation in a pitched battle with one army of Saxons. And won.

Long, drawn out conflicts are usually pretty fun. My largest battle, I believe, was between the Egyptians and I (RTR). 3 armies per turn against my single legion in the region. Not fun.
