I don't know if any of you have played any of the Civilisation games, but those who have will no doubt be familiar with its Upgrade Unit function.

That is to say, perhaps you'd been training archers and suddenly gained access to longbowmen. Instead of disbanding those experienced archers, you pay a bit of cash to see them upgraded to longbowmen.

I think the same idea would work well for TW games. Who hated disbanding their gold Chevroned mailed knights because they were outclassed by the Feudal Knights? Wouldn't you rather have simply upgraded them?

but not gold chevron feudal knights! I get what you are saying and would probably work best of a Rome or medieval type game.

But 6 pounder cannons could be upgraded to 12 pounders, light infantry to riflemen, line infantry to Guard. Etc.

Obviously in the last example you wouldn't upgrade all your line infantry to Guard, but perhaps those few units who had carried you through your campaign in blah blah land could be upgraded, giving them a more personal touch.

Good idea, it would stop you having the odd unit of Demi Cannons lying around...

This is very important for Napoleonic warfare,There was a lot of difference in uniform and abilities between the 1805 and later armies, especially for Austria,Prussia and Russia.

Yeah, you should be able to upgrade artillery, as you are only changing the guns and ammunition, not the crewmen themselves.

I believe Russia bestowed the title of "Guards" to units that performed well in battle, correct me if im wrong?
