President Obama Must Come Clean on Research Contracts

For almost the entirety of the health care debate, the Obama Administration has relied on economist Jonathan Gruber to make the public case for its idea of reform - even the most unpopular parts. But as Firedoglake revealed on Friday, the Obama Administration has failed to disclose that it paid the same economist more than $780,000.

Jonathan Gruber's work has been cited by the White House, Members of Congress, and countless media outlets, but not once did the Obama Administration disclose it was paying him more than $780,000 in tax dollars. This is a huge ethical violation that undermines the entirety of health care reform.

Sign our petition to President Obama: come clean on Jonathan Gruber and anyone else receiving public money to push health care reform.

I'm sure they aren't solely relying on Gruber anyhow. Infact I know they aren't. You always have both private and public consulting/ think tanks that produce this stuff. And then both sides argue until they are blue in the face. Then average the numbers...

He can't propose legislation regardless of his status as a citizen.

Of course he can. The presidential budget is essentially a proposal. That doesn't mean congress has to accept it but... they are inclined to give political capital.

I've had to delete practically this entire thread due to going off-topic. The conversation here is in regards to the Obama Administration and research contracts, not whether or not Obama is a valid US President.

When someone goes off-topic, the correct thing to do is to report the off-topic post, and move on. Responding to off-topic posts with your own ones only makes both of you guilty for going off-topic.
