    Default Campaign Qs

I'm some turns into the Brutii campaign (post Marian reforms) and am 3 settlements away from grabbing all of Macedon. I've captured the Pontic capital and killed their leader and heir. When I captured the settlement, I chose to exterminate the populace since it had rioted the first time I captured it. All their cultural buildings were destroyed and I fled to leave it to the rebels and recapture it. Pontus recaptured it and I found a garrison of peasants there which made it surprisingly difficult to take again.

So, how does occupation or extermination affect the standing with the Roman people? It solves the rioting problem but I've been struggling to boost my rating with the people. And how does one prevent rioting do to distance to the capital?

ok, this one is easy. the people of rome dont care about if you occupy or exterminate. Just conquer. the more you conquer the more they love you. the more you lose, the more they start to dislike you. As far as senate popularity no one cares. Youre going to have to take rome eventually. also, try moving your capital to the center of your empire. therefore it is even as far as happiness.

Shifting your captal is the best you can do, but there will still be settlements who are difficult to control.

Ok thanks, I've had to move my capital to Thermon and even then my eastern border is at 40% unhappiness because of the distance.

yea vanilla kinda sucks with happiness ratings and bla bla... its hard to keep people happy and there isnt much you can do after youve maxed out your temples and waterworks and other happiness related items and lowered taxes for that matter...

Any good mods to improve these stats without having to start over?

I've managed to hang around after 1 city rioted and another kicked me out and became Rebel controlled Fighting on 3 fronts at once is hard.... at least Britain's helping me out with Macedon

You can controll your rate of happiness in your empire pretty easily if you build the right buildings, which i mean if your cities are pretty harsh to control, like me playing as Julii when i conquered Londinium. Build the temple with the most influence on happiness, build arena's and all the other public order increaser stuff, when you do all this the effect is massive! And you don't need to put those cities on low tax again. Cities like Carthage who've already built effective temples do not need to let you build your temples anymore, because the temple of Ba'al is influential on the po too.
The result was that i've managed to keep Londinium under my control, with only half stack of town watch in it, on very high tax, while Londinium is now happy
Good luck, you have the money, do something with it

Alright I'll give that a shot once I get enough pop to upgrade. Armenia decided to attack now so I'm at war with Macedonia, Egypt, Armenia, and Thrace, the Britons turning a war on 3 fronts down to 2

You shoule be able to handle that (but what role is Macedonia playing in this game? Haven't you wiped them out yet?) Owh and by the way, try to make peace with Egypt those bastards are a real pain in the ass if you go to war with them

Nah, I launched a blitzkrieg against Macedon before I had a large enough army to sustain such expansion.... and the fact Egypt allied with Macedon and Armenia were my allies for the entire game up to this point....
