I didn't know where else to ask this...

    That's the question.

I was thinking of re-installing R:TW and thought what the heck...maybe I'd get one of those instead...but if the AI is pretty much the same...I'll just re-install Rome.

The AI for Med 2 is better than Rome.

Both are kinda broken. According to Kieran from CA, the AI would have two parts, the military AI and the diplomatic AI. They would often act independently. Like them signing a peace treaty and giving you lots of money after a war and then the next turn blockading one of your ports with a solitary ship to start the war again.

But we were promised they they'd fix this for Empire. And they did. Promise that is.

I would say Med 2 AI is slightly less retarded than Rome AI

So basically, there's no compelling reason to get Medieval and/or Empire?

Med2 AI is slightly better than RTW AI, and is also customizable in a text file.

E:TW AI is a huge improvvement over the old AI, but the bashing community seems not to notice this

Ofcourse there are reasons to get Med2 or Empire. Both have superior AI to Rome with Empire's campaign + diplomatic AI being the best so far by a longshot (medieval 2 has the best vanilla battle AI though)

ME2 and RTW are both basically you against the world. ETW looks like diplomatic ties actually count for something

The campaign AI is kinda broken in both games, maybe better in Medieval 2 with the kingdoms expansion.

But the better battle AI is of Alexander expansion of Rome Total War.

The AI of Alexander tries everytime to flank your formation.

I would fully agree with you on the Alex battle AI, also a joy to rescript to get more from it.

And you know why it was the best? Because they built the Alexander expansion from the ground up to be aimed at hardcore players. My casual friends immediately disowned it because it had a smaller map and less factions than vanilla regardless of the variety in armies and the tactics used by the AI both in the campaign and in battles.
