Default Could forts be modded to be better?

    Problems
    1. Bad pathing for manuevering along the top.
    2. Difficult to get troops to use the guns.
    3. Bad AI when it comes to assaulting a wall.

    Missing features:
    1. As far as I can tell, no one is firing out of the portholes on the side of the forts. It should work like MTW forts did where if a unit is on the top manning the wall then musket, skirmish, or rifle shots will automatically shoot out of the portholes based on the tech you've researched.
    2. Forts should be dynaically placed on the map and restrict movement along adjacent territory, as it was in MTW and RTW.
The current system is just easymode.

Works to a point, but once the targeted unit breaks or moves out of musket range, you guys will scoot off after it.

What did you think would happen? When did you think it would all fall down?
Domain of dust in a land of sand. Did yourself right, so let's feel grand.

My units use the cannons to good effect. I use Darthmod, and I haven't played vanilla since right before the game came out, so I don't know if that's what's doing it.

Forts have an interception radius just like any army or navy. Just build your own forts at choke points and main roads, and you have a leg-up on the enemy's advance.

The best mod I have to make fort battles better is the no forts mod.

Theres a mod that makes only wooden forts usable that helps the AI, they even engage outside sometimes...

Shoot coward! You are only going to kill a man!

if you havent already, increase the range on the fort cannons - seemed to help.

but yeah, best way to improve fort battles currently is to not have them. - way to easy to "funnel" the AI armies out/in of a broken wall. - the AI, upon a wall breach, gennerally stops manning them entirely, or in the case of an attack, stops trying to climb/surround the fort.

Yep I've experienced this. Have beaten far larger armies simply by defending a breach and nothing more. Especially when they send the units in 1 by one. I was outnumbered 3 to 1 but whenever there was a fight, the odds were 4 to 1 in my favour. I could rout a unit in a full fire by rank volley and take no casualties. Actually started to run out of ammo.

Siege attacks are bugged like the rest of the game.
After they throw ropes, they don't climb them.
Even better: my enemy climbed them to get of the walls!

The slowdown on the starfort battles is the most annoying aspect of the game for me. I know the EO mod includes optimised forts, but it's still very sluggish for me.

Well, it really doesnt matter if they make the "manning the wall" better or not, since when they actually DO fire with them, nothing really happens. I have never EVER seen a single casualty on the battlefield caused by my cannons and i have looked really hard for corpses on the field...

Although i have noticed when i attack that i get casualties even though it doesnt seem to be visible, as corpses dont show up on the field of battle, however they is hardly even a bonus defending the largest castle you can have imo, only reason for it to be easy is that the AI just is to stupid. Against a human player? Dont think there is any bonuses left att all when defending...
If you compare M2TW with ETW there is an insane difference, in M2TW you get a sick bonus with citadel walls x3 and cannon towers, in fact you can kill the attacker even before coming inside with all the FIAPOWAH you got, much as you would like a very expensive citadel to be, resulting in you having to spend less money on troops defending it.
I dont feel i get nearly as much bonuses in ETW if any at all, just that the ai is too stupid in the attacking part resulting in a easy victory.
If you would play a siege against a human player it would often if always end up in him finding a good place to climb up and shooting down your defending troops from above on the walls, actually making your walls and star fort BAD for you as a defender.

Just my thoughts, sorry if i got a little offtopic here

CA could make the cannons work properly and consistently. They could allow you to choose targets for them ... possibly. They could fire without people on the walls, which would provide a greater advantage for the defender. They could fire any form of shot that your empire has currently researched too.

I thought so too until the first shot of a battle from one cannon took out my general/leader (?). For the rest of that battle and thereafter, I cannot recall another casualty by fort cannon. I ended up winning anyway.
