Its super easy! Just read the entire Mod Workshop Section of the forums. Its totally unorganized and at least half of the information is outdated or just wrong but what you need is there someplace. Good luck!

well said, this is what Moderators need 2 watch...I remember this is why i came to this site 2 find info, but you cant anymore. You just find mod fan boys now.

Sorry platinumkiller i know your pain. I would try AUM by Swiss Halberdier he had the best mod page( IMO) i have ever seen, all the info on first page dont have 2 read million of post. He is a cool guys also if you asking something off the wall he will not act like all the other modders. A real cool guy from what i have seen... And most of all all info is up-2-date

Boys want quantity, while men seek quality.
Mere external facts cannot serve as a ground of reasoning.
What we are able to learn is greatly dependent upon what we already know. Different people with different amounts of information will UNDERSTAND different.

There is a principle which is a bar against all information, which is proof against all argument, and which cannot fail to keep a man in ever lasting ignorance. This principle is contempt prior to examination.

    Yes !
I know it doesn't seem to make much sense, merely downloading some one elses ready-made mod to learn modding, But read Swiss Halbardier's AUM mod thread Here : http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showthread.php?t=250655

download the mod, then, follow the directions, all of which are on that first page, to further mod the mod yourself.
It's the only good, basic, beginners mod introduction I know of.
Unfortunately it won't teach you Pack File Manager, Startpos editing , or the dread hex editing. But at least its a start.

Moderation of the Modders workshop was mentioned in passing --- what does a moderator DO in Mod Workshop ? It's not a political, religious, or social forum where you have to watch everyones temper every second.
It must be an honorary post.
Because even the tutorials & mod tools sticky section is a joke. These --- basically they are how-to guides --- are not even perfunctorily edited, and important articles aren't in that section, they are buried on page 16 of so-and-so's thread, on page 8 of the open forum.

Don't worry though, I am going to be a crackerjack modder someday, so you will hear me bring up this subject again . And again. And again.

I was so busy pontificating on modding I forgot the original question !
    Sorry !
Anyway, on windows Vista ( I don't know other systems ) go the the Microsoft windows flag button in the lower left corner of your screen . Click on that.
when the menu pops up, click on Computer . when that menu pops up, click on hard disk drive C ( C: )
Next menu, click on , "Program files "
Next, scroll down and click on " steam "
Next, menu, click " steamapps "
next, click " Empire total war "
    next , click "data "
    or C: \ program files \ steam\ steamapps \ Empire total war \ data

The files are there. but to truelly access the files you apparently need Pack File manager, esf Editor, and Db Editor

If you just want to install someones ready -made mod , download it into C: \ program files \ steam \ steamapps \ Empire total war \ data folder.

Then , install mod manager ( link to mod manager here : http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showthread.php?t=240335 )
the mod should show up on mod manager . Click on the box next to your Mod, then fire up the game through mod manager.
Bingo ! Mod is installed !

( If I have skipped any detail , gotten any detail wrong , someone please DO point it out )

    Now back to the general subject of modding ;

It has become especially important now that people have a basic understanding of modding .
    why ?
because with steam, with periodic patches downloaded whether you want them or not, every patch / update sends us back to the drawing board.
for modders that's no big deal. indeed, we may even look forward to a new problem to work out.
but for others, who just want something more than vanilla TW, it can make the game unplayable for 6 months or a year.

Indeed, I originally got into modding because i couldn't't play my favorite title, ETW , for 6 months because I was using APE TI and a steam patch threw a wrench in the works.
i turned to modding just to get the darn game to work.

I could be wrong, but i suspect if modders don't get together and make some effort to put out a basic beginners guide to modding, they are going to be playing their mods by themselves.
