Default Creating a .dds with GIMP

    Hello,

I just started modding from the very basics (generally thanks to the very helpfull tutorials around here), but one thing I just can't accomplish is creating my own Sikh Warrior texture mod using GIMP.

At first, it seemed simple enough: download and install GIMP together with the .dds-plugin, open a .dds file, save as 'DXT5 - ARGB8 - Create Mip-Map Levels' (citing the texture creation tutorial), put the newly created texture in the right place within the pack and link the DB stuff for the Sikh Warriors together with it.

My problem is, though, that the tutorial was meant for photoshop. There were slight similarities, however: in the GIMP plugin, it was possible to create a .dds file through a bunch of options similar to those described in the tutorial, but I don't know which.

A simple description of the options that should be selected when creating a .dds 'diffuse' file in GIMP with the plugin would be most appreciated.

    Thanks.

I have never used Gimp so can't help there but there is a nice little programme (DXTBmp) that converts most file types into DDS or whatever you like. It's also free ! So it you save your terxture as .tga or .png lets say and then convert with this.

Just save as DDS DXT5 ...

Also atm I'm reskinning the Indian factions so take a look at my tread (link in sig') (plug)

Hah, thanks, I'll take a look at it. Seems to be a good way of working around the problem... Still, if there is anyone out there with some proper GIMP user knowledge, help would still be useful.

    Once again, thanks.

Thanks for the help, I got it to finally work, after some frustrating hours of tweaking the .dds settings...

    ... Although...

...It turned out that I had by accient written the random unit ID wrong in the DB files (), obviously you're not allowed to have an ID beginning with '0'.

Now I can finally create some proper Greenskin textures...

    MODERATOR MAY CLOSE THREAD.
