(first turn on show hidden files and folders)

My Computer --> Hard Disk on which ETW is installed --> Documents and Settings --> Your name --> application data --> The Creative Assembly --> Empire --> Scripts and then open preferences.empire_script. In preferences.empire_script find the line that starts with default_camera_type behind default_camera_type you'll find the number 0 replace it by 2. Save and enjoy!

But watch out if you change anything in the ingame settings then the 2 will be replaced with a 1 which means a horrible battle camera.

    Hi there.
Before I ask my question, I just want to say that I DID read the thread daniu linked too, but it did not give a precise answer.
Now, my question: Does unlocking the camera also allow you to zoom in as much as you want to?

I haven't actually used it but like you, I'd like to know the answer to this (I'll make the changes tonight). However, this "...and you can go under the map too..." from the thread Daniu linked to, makes me think that you can.

Actually, the "and you can go under the map too" is a bit annoying, because quite often, your camery actually starts off under the map (or far above).
My advice to get around this: double-click one of your unit cards to immediately move your camera there.
At the start of replays (where you don't have a unit card to click on), use <shift-x> and <shift-y> in addition to the mouse wheel for accelerated vertical movement.
